TADZKIRAHTADZKIRAH

IN THE NAME OF ALLAH,
MOST COMPASSIONATE,
MOST MERCIFUL.

““ O ye who believe! Obey Allah and obey the MessengerO ye who believe! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger
and those charged with authority among you.and those charged with authority among you. If ye differIf ye differ
in anything among yourselves, refer it to Allah and Hisin anything among yourselves, refer it to Allah and His
Messenger if ye do believe in Allah and the Last DayMessenger if ye do believe in Allah and the Last Day::

“Now whenever Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, it is
not for a believing man or a believing woman to claim freedom of
choice insofar as they themselves are concerned; for he who (thus)
rebels against Allah and His Messenger has already, most obviously,
gone astray.”

“O YOU who have attained to faith! Do not put yourselves forward in
the presence of [what] Allah and His Messenger [may have ordained],
but remain conscious of Allah (with TAQWA - fear of transgressing
against Allah): for, verily, Allah is all-hearing, all-knowing!”
(Qur’an: Hujurat : 49: 1)

As Muslims, we strive to submit to Allah SWT through being obedient
by conforming to all the teachings of the Last Prophet of Allah
Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ .
This requires us to have ADAB - which requires having not only the
appropriate knowledge of the DEEN; but also knowing their respective
categories in accordance to its priority as dictated by Allah SWT and
the Prophet Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ ; the right attitude with the ability to
put things in their proper place, in appropriate quantum etc.

It is significant that Allah SWT made mention and linked Ramadhan to
honour this month with, the ‘revelation of the Qur’an to His
Messenger Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ ’
Although from this verse we Muslims tody tend to focus upon the
Qur’an, actually the most important aspect for us here is the reminder
of Allah’s favour regarding the ‘appointment’ of our Prophet
Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ through this first revelation of the Qur’an.
REMEMBER: It is the ‘teacher’ sent with the Qur’an which is most
significant and important.

Sincere Advice
FOR PEOPLE OF
ADAB

And we are to remember (with being grateful) and consider the legacy
of being educated on Al-Islam by the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ , in which the
proof of its truth, is the preservation of this Last Book from Allah SWT.

““There has certainly come to you a Messenger from amongThere has certainly come to you a Messenger from among
yourselves. Grievous to him is what you suffer; [he is]yourselves. Grievous to him is what you suffer; [he is]
concerned (concerned (HARI-HARI-SWSWUNUN) over you (O Mankind), and to the) over you (O Mankind), and to the
believers is kind (believers is kind (RA-UUFUNRA-UUFUN) and merciful () and merciful (RA-RA-HHEEMEEM).”).”

Qur'an as (Qur'an as (HUDAN-LIN-NAA-SHUDAN-LIN-NAA-S) a guide to mankind) a guide to mankind
We are to remember that the Qur’an is meant for the Guidance of
mankind, not merely for Muslims.
As Muslims it becomes our responsibility that the legacy of DA’WAH is
continued to be carried out. Thus:

The perfection of the Deen-ul-Islam necessitates that the teaching of the
Qur’anic includes :
clear explanation of its message (verses) – [1] preserved in the purest
Arabic, always consistent throughout whereby the meaning of its
guidance have always been known, manifested and rules coded in the
lives of generations of Muslims since the Prophets’ time; and [2] its
teachings established standard or criterion to differentiate truth from
falsehood, right from wrong, the true path from those of error which
can lead mankind astray.

MOST COMPASSIONATE,
MOST MERCIFUL.
”” So everyone of you who is present (at his home)So everyone of you who is present (at his home) during thatduring that

After highlighting the importance of the Prophethood of the beloved
of Allah’s Messenger Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ , highlighting the revelation
of the glorious Qur’an in this month – then comes the Guidance as
reminder of the command , the obligation for Muslims to fast.
It even clarifies with a proviso towards those who, due to their
circumstances, although are excused, yet they still are required to
repay with observing the missed fast in other months. All this within
one verse which underline an significant aspect of the SHARI’AH, i.e.
indicating tolerance (TASAMUH) in the manner of implementation of
Islam’s ruling.

TADZKIRAHTADZKIRAH

TADZKIRAHTADZKIRAH
““O YOU whoO YOU who have attained to faithhave attained to faith ((IIMANIIMAN)! Fasting is ordained for)! Fasting is ordained for
you as it was ordained for those before you,you as it was ordained for those before you, so that you might learnso that you might learn
self-restraintself-restraint (being conscious of and fear Allah -(being conscious of and fear Allah - TAQWATAQWA):”):”

The command begins with Allah addressing us directly : O YOU whoO YOU who
have attained to faithhave attained to faith ((IIMANIIMAN)!”)!”
FastingFasting – implying knowledge of its value and virtues– implying knowledge of its value and virtues – is not new with
the Qur’an but has also been commanded in previous times which the
followers of other religion today may have forgotten or ceased to
observe them. The Prophet Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ came with the Qur’an
to restore it, and ensure its continued observance every Ramadhan.
Most important to note is that Allah SWT within this verse has
provided explicitly the reason or purpose for the command to fasting :
indeed it is for inculcating the virtue of TAQWA – for the Muslims to
attain to - not to regarded it as ritual, but as an educational program.

TADZKIRAHTADZKIRAH
“[Fasting for] a limited number of days.
So whoever among you is ill or on a journey [during them] -
then an equal number of days [are to be made up]. And
upon those who are able [to fast, but with hardship] - a
ransom [as substitute] of feeding a poor person [each day].
And whoever volunteers excess - it is better for him. But to
fast is best for you, if you only knew.”
(Qur’an: Baqarah: 2: 184)

Actually, fasting should be regarded as a program for ‘reforming’ or
‘rehabilitation’ – which thus requires a fixed period of observance.
Every Muslim must fulfill this quantum annually – even those unable
to complete them within Ramadhan.
As to those who cannot even fast at all (i.e. old, due to illness,
pregnancy, breastfeeding etc.) the alternative for them is the feeding
of the poor or indigent – termed as FIDYAH. Although the amount to
give is somewhat fixed, they are encouraged to voluntarily give more.
Yet, although there are alternative choices provide for certain
Muslims, Allah SWT in this verse underscore the great incomparable
virtue and value of FASTING for mankind, which many people do not
know.

One important lesson here is that, obedience to Allah SWT , especially
pertaining to the restraining desire (food, drink, sexual) is meant to
benefit man – for Allah SWT has no need from us or any other.
To serve Allah SWT is also by serving others. Thus those unable to fast
(which can benefit themselves with it) are required to bring benefit by
providing others their basic need – which is food.
For, in Islam we are taught : “The best person is he who benefits
others.”

TADZKIRAHTADZKIRAH
““Allah wills that you shall have ease, and does not will you to sufferAllah wills that you shall have ease, and does not will you to suffer
hardship;hardship; but [He desires] that you complete the number [of daysbut [He desires] that you complete the number [of days
requiredrequired], and], and that you extol Allah for His having guided you arightthat you extol Allah for His having guided you aright, and, and
thatthat you render your thanksyou render your thanks [unto Him] –[unto Him] – TASH-KURUN – (SHAKUR)TASH-KURUN – (SHAKUR).”.”

Allah’s command for Muslims, FASTING here as a form of training in
self restrain and therefore something go against man’s desire and
therefore is disliked. Yet Allah SWT assures Muslims that it would be
made easy for them.

“It has been made permissible for you the night preceding fasting to go
to your wives [for sexual relations]. They are clothing for you and you
are clothing for them. Allah knows that you used to deceive yourselves,
so He accepted your repentance and forgave you...”
(Qur’an: Baqarah: 2: 187)

““ So now, have relations with them and seek that which Allah hasSo now, have relations with them and seek that which Allah has
decreed for you. And eat and drink until the white thread of dawndecreed for you. And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn
becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]....”becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]....”

Allah SWT recorded this passage to show His Mercy and forgiveness
towards the Ummah of Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ .
FASTING is not total suppression of human desires, but of controlling
them. Islam is not a ‘kill joy’ and it enjoins and uphold marriage as an
important part of human life. It enjoins man to ‘celebrate’ ant not to
become a ‘celibate’.
The Qur’an here places the husband and wife with dignified and
complementary roles, where even ‘sexual’ and intimate conjugal
relationship are here beautifully described in metaphor, likened as
clothings for each other.
These are permissible through the nights of Ramadhan, till dawn.
