SUMMARY
Dynamicexpert software engineer offering 12 years of experience designing and
building scalable, fault tolerant, and maintainable systems. Proven ability to work at any
level of the softwaredevelopment stack has allowed me to deliver stellar results in time
critical and high paced environments. Strong educational background, stellar work ethic,
and passion for technology all combine allowing me to create beautifully crafted
technological solutions.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Bluebox, San Francisco,CA — Senior Software Engineer
July 2012 - PRESENT
Bluebox is a mobile application security startup based out of San Francisco that
specializes in providing post compilation / black box security solution to mobile app
developers.
Lead Frontend Engineer
Implemented a beautiful and highly usable customer facing web portalthat enabled
customer admin to manage all aspects of their Bluebox account such as; view analytics,
manage admin, view logs, and manage API keys. Theportalwas initially implemented
utilizing Ruby on Rails and Backbone.js as the core technologies but were later re-
factored to Scala / Play and ReactJS.
CloudPlatform Engineer
After a couple of “hacker” years as a start up culture Bluebox encountered the inevitable
and predictable problems that always hit more mature companies such as addressing
stability, scalability, and streamlining the deployment processes.
Entrusted as the go to guy to move away from dynamic languages such as Ruby / Python
in performance critical areas to a much more performant and reliable staticlanguage
running on the JVM (Scala).
My first task while on the cloud platform team was dual purposed. 1.) Lead the effort to
educate both myself and others on using Scala as a replacement for more fragile and less
performant dynamic languages. 2.) Identify the most fragile areas of thesystemand re-
engineer these components using Scala.
After successfully migrating several key areas of theBluebox cloud platformresulting in
lower latency / processing time and increasing thequality of thecomponents our defect
count across theboard dropped by over 60% or puttingit another way “things just

2. worked” and successfully allowed Bluebox engineering to transition from frequent
emergency mode and more focus on solving core business needs.
At the end of it all I managed to architect and implemented or refactor several mission
critical micro services in Scala:
● Mobile app cracking and extraction service that consumed app binaries and
extracted required metadata.
● Customer facing web service responsiblefor serving enterpriseapp storedata
which was consumed by and presented in the Bluebox mobile app.
● Customer facing app security API that allowed customers to upload their mobile
apps, secure theapp and return a security hardened version of the previously
unsecured binary.
● Centralized asynchronous app security manager statemachine responsiblefor
tracking and handling themobile app securing lifecycle.
● Robust and fault tolerant web service which consumed events for client side
events and scaled to handle 5k req/sec on a single small EC2 instance which
facilitated predictable horizontal scaling in an auto scaling environment.
Hacker / Nerd / Problem Solver
Took initiative to create a innovative solution to the tricky and sometimes painful problem
of working with micro services in AWS.
By leveraging Vagrant (Ubuntu) SaltStack I was able to deliver an intuitive virtual
development that integrated seamless with the Jenkins build system, emulated the
Bluebox AWS stack for local development, testing, and demos while also saving the
company both operational and fiscal costs associated with creating new EC2 instances to
alleviate issue. As we put it internally, I put “Bluebox in a Box”...
IBM -Internet Security Systems (ISS), Atlanta GA — Senior Software
Engineer
July 2008-July 2012
Internet security systems was acquired by IBM in 2007 to expand their portfolio into the
edge network security appliance market.
As the lead frontend engineer I oversaw of team of 3 engineers to create the management
console for theISS next generation Intrusion Prevention security appliance.
Serving as both UI architect and lead programmer my role was key in thesuccessful
delivery of a key component for what would become the archetypefor the next generation
of the IBM Security Systems offerings.
Lead developer on major on major rewrite of the management interface for the Proventia
G line of layer 2 network security devices. The “G”is the ISS flagship product and
produced 130M+ in revenue for the company in 2009. I leveraged Ruby 2.8.6 and Rails
2.3.2 along with JQuery and successfully delivered a highly useful and innovative
solution.
Institute for Online Training, Athens,GA — Software Engineer
Jan 2005 - July 2008
The Institute for Online Training (IOTIS) is an organization responsible for developing
training modules and provides help desk coverage to assist the Department of Family and
Children Services (DFCS).

AWARDS
Recognized by teammates and

efforts that could be defined as
“exceptional” and received monetary
bonuses and public recognition as a
result.
3. Re-wrote and launched the stateof Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS)
Online Training System(OTS) which resulted in an astounding 80% decrease in call center
trouble tickets over thenext year.
Although hired as a junior developer I was proven to be highly effective and successful in the
lead developer role when the then lead developer abruptly departed. Thedepartureof critical
knowledge and talent could have been disastrous for theIOTIS program but was able to
stabilize and eventually improve in overall quality over time through my leadership and
tireless work ethic.
Designed and maintained the IOTISweb stack consisting clustered Redhat ES 4
apache/tomcat web servers and load balanced Oracle 10g databases
Rosetta Stone, Harrisonburg VA — Software Engineer (Intern)
Aug 2004 - Dec 2004
Rosetta stone is the marketleader in language learning software for over 30 languages.
As a member of a small, agile team I executed to implement features based on product
requirements for theweb based version of the RosettaStone software.
Collaborated with Product, UX, and Marketing to continuously deliver high quality
features based on customer feedback and product direction on time and under budget.
Serving as my introductory experience with the stack of Ruby / Rails, MySQLand
utilized JQuery as theclient side dependency this role allowed me to gain experience of
completely owning features from theclient side UI down through the database schema
