•  First meeting with IMS Global and IDPF via KERIS
•  Started efforts to converge both domain technologies
•  KERIS has MOU with IMS Global from 2007
•  KERIS has MOU with IDPF from 2011
•  Now IMS Korea and Open Digital Publishing Forum are
representing regional standardization forum
•  Some of IMS specifications were adopted from 2008 and
EPUB3 was adopted in 2012 as National Standards

International Standardization Efforts
•  Started Ad-hoc Group under ISO/IEC JTC1 SC34
with IEC TC100, ISO TC46 and IDPF since 2010
•  Now JWG for EPUB established under JTC1/SC34 with
above stakeholders (in 2013)
•  This JWG will maintain ISO/IEC EPUB3 standards based
on collaboration with IDPF
•  EPUB3 is under progression of Draft Technical
Specification of ISO/IEC (as ISO/IEC 30135 series)

•  Where is the learning technologies?
•  ISO/IEC JTC1 SC36 (Information Technology for
Learning, Education and Training)
•  JTC1/SC36 has liaison relationship with IMS Global and
published Access For All (ISO/IEC 24751) and Content
Packaging (ISO/IEC 12785)
•  JTC1/SC36 is developing e-Textbook project (ISO/IEC
18120) as Technical Report and will evolve further
•  JTC1 SC34 and SC36 have liaison relationship since
2011
But, Keep in mind
Did you see rosy future on the Digital Textbook?
•  Did you think how teachers felt digitalized textbook?
•  Did you hear parents’ voice about addiction of their kids?
(we said VDT syndrome couple of years ago, but now…)
•  Can you guarantee ROI through the Digital Textbook in
terms of learning outcome?
•  Ministry of Education in Korea has tried general policy
pertaining to teacher training with teaching model as well
as cloud based platform service since 2011
* In particular, evaluation for this policy in terms of
effectiveness and side effects is conducted as well

Memory of Standardization Efforts SMART on ICT Open Forum 2011 - 2012 See the Web link for this events; http://smart-on-ict.net/main/main.php •  First meeting with IMS Global and IDPF via KERIS •  Started efforts to converge both domain technologies •  KERIS has MOU with IMS Global from 2007 •  KERIS has MOU with IDPF from 2011 •  Now IMS Korea and Open Digital Publishing Forum are representing regional standardization forum •  Some of IMS specifications were adopted from 2008 and EPUB3 was adopted in 2012 as National Standards

Memory of Standardization Efforts International Standardization Efforts •  Started Ad-hoc Group under ISO/IEC JTC1 SC34 with IEC TC100, ISO TC46 and IDPF since 2010 •  Now JWG for EPUB established under JTC1/SC34 with above stakeholders (in 2013) •  This JWG will maintain ISO/IEC EPUB3 standards based on collaboration with IDPF •  EPUB3 is under progression of Draft Technical Specification of ISO/IEC (as ISO/IEC 30135 series)

Memory of Standardization Efforts International Standardization Efforts •  Where is the learning technologies? •  ISO/IEC JTC1 SC36 (Information Technology for Learning, Education and Training) •  JTC1/SC36 has liaison relationship with IMS Global and published Access For All (ISO/IEC 24751) and Content Packaging (ISO/IEC 12785) •  JTC1/SC36 is developing e-Textbook project (ISO/IEC 18120) as Technical Report and will evolve further •  JTC1 SC34 and SC36 have liaison relationship since 2011
  • 11. But, Keep in mind Did you see rosy future on the Digital Textbook? •  Did you think how teachers felt digitalized textbook? •  Did you hear parents’ voice about addiction of their kids? (we said VDT syndrome couple of years ago, but now…) •  Can you guarantee ROI through the Digital Textbook in terms of learning outcome? •  Ministry of Education in Korea has tried general policy pertaining to teacher training with teaching model as well as cloud based platform service since 2011 * In particular, evaluation for this policy in terms of effectiveness and side effects is conducted as well
