3. Why NOTAR Little Birds?
A/MH-6 Little Birds provide a vertical take-off and landing (V/TOL)
capability critical towards inserting/extracting small teams of men and
getting seriously wounded casualties out without having to wait for
an airstrip or ground vehicle to become available. MASH type people
casevac pods must be utilized on the troop seat planks. Since Little
Birds provide the critical land-almost-anywhere capability of the
NLMB, we must maximize this potential by not having tail rotors that
can get fowled in trees and power lines. NOTAR Little Birds are
controversial within the Army 160th Special Operations Aviation
Regiment who say they sacrifice power/payload. We disagree and
insist that the benefits of not having a tail rotor outweigh some
power/payload loss. Particularly STEALTH; a NOTAR Little Bird can
be 500 feet above you and you will not hear it. NLMB NOTAR Little
Birds can fly above effective AKM small arms fire range (300 meters)
and be completely stealthy to see the bad guys first and not be
detected, evaded and shot down.

Justice is coming…..swiftly...
And without
warning...
5. U.S. FAA, NTSB and U.S. Army Studies have shown that 22% of all crashes are
due to tailrotor strikes and loss of tail rotor effectiveness. NOTAR® systems eliminate these problems.
NOTAR helicopters are designed and tested to be 50% quieter than any other helicopters in the world.
This results in detection distances that are far superior to other aircraft. Using the Coanda Effect to
provide tail boom lift and anti-torque, the NOTAR system is more stable and easier to control. This
effect reduces the sensitivity to wind direction on helicopter control, through providing an important
tactical advantage during combat operations.
Since the NOTAR system uses low-pressure air, it is not sensitive to holes made in
the tailboom by fire from automatic weapons. Studies have shown the NOTAR® system is 60% less
vulnerable to small arms fire than tail rotor systems on comparable helicopters.
6. Emergency Pop-Out Floats enable Little Birds
to land on water
P.S.: don’t try this if you have a tail rotor!
