with public and private entities to
educate, train and prepare for a
wildfire event.

The Georgia Firewise programs has
41 certified communities and the
numbers of new communities are
growing each year.

Fire departments and Community
Leaders are our primary audience.
Utilizing the knowledge of leaders
who are already part of the
community, we can make a greater
impact on homeowners. It takes the
efforts of everyone for us to be
successful in gaining area interest,
participation and community
engagement.

The vast majority of Georgia’s wildfires are
caused by humans, intentionally or
unintentionally. Firewise can be the tool that
reduces these statistics through community
awareness. It’s a matter of educating
everyone.
Why is Firewise needed in Georgia?
Though most Georgia wildfires are
small with creeping flames; our recent
weather and drought conditions has
created unprecedented fires like these
in SE Georgia. Low humidity and a lack
of moisture can allow for these type of
large fires – which are hard to stop.
