2. Exposition
(I & II)
Johnny was never into when he had stayed with
the Laphams, although he did meet two men of
great importance in his casual work, he had
never knew that they were involved in the
rebellions in the colonies against Britain.
Only after he burns his
hand does he become
interested in politics and
finds out how these men
were critical to independence.
3. Down in the dust
(III& IV)
Johnny, now knows he will probably smith silver
again, he is at is low, from being a great
apprentice into a poor orphan. When he turns to
getting help from his relatives in the Lyte family,
they think that Vinny never had a son, and died
of cholera. After the court
case, Johnny gets cup
stolen by Merchant Lyte,
because he was not
convinced that they were related.
4. The Boston Observer
(V)
After Johnny is unable
to find a job, he goes
to his friend Rab, who
works at The Boston
Observer. He had
promised him a job if
he could not find one
elsewhere in Boston.
He learns that the
Observer is more than
just a newspaper, it
was a society
messenger.
5. Saltwater Taxes
(VI & VII)
Johnny had helped dump the tea into the
harbor along with the other sons of liberty,
but now they are paying the price. No
imports of exports of any goods are to be
made. Nobody can live without goods
forever, but the
people of Boston
lived. Johnny made a
decent keep by being
a Tory messenger.
6. A mold of a country
(VIII & IX)
The Lytes are being ran out of their second home by
the Whigs, meanwhile Johnny and Cilla go back to
get the silver cups, Johnny finds pieces of his
ancestor and burns it, and doesn’t take his cup
because he doesn’t want to be associated with the
Lyte family anymore. Meanwhile, Rab gets arrested
for trying to buy a musket off of a British soldier. It is
also found that many of the Tory soldiers and Whigs
and wish to desert the army. Johnny made a deal
with a Tory soldier named Pumpkin to get his uniform
and gun, and Rab eventually gets released because
he is “just a boy”. Johnny eventually gives the new
musket to Rab.
7. “Disperse, Ye Rebels!”
(X & XI)
Rab decides to get out of Boston to fight
for the rebellion before it is too late and
he gets blocked in. Johnny doesn’t take
it too well but continues spying for the
rebels. Johnny gets word that the Tories
are to attack Lexington and Concord so
he warns the rebels, and two lanterns
are put up in the church as people
spread the news and Paul revere rides
through the night.
8. Tying Loose Ends
(XI & XII)
When Johnny wakes up, the first shots have been fired at
Lexington and Concord, Johnny wants to find Rab, but stays
behind to slip out at night. Meanwhile, the Lytes and Isannah
are moving to London, but before they do Lavinia Lyte tells
Johnny of how he is related to them, and they put the pieces
together, and she is yet to tell her father Merchant Lyte about
the connection. Johnny is free to have anything that is left
when the war is over, but It could most likely be destroyed.
Johnny then accompanies Rab and Dr. Warren at Lexington,
were he was seriously wounded by the first shots, he had
never fired his gun though. Rab eventually dies, but Johnny
decides to let Dr. Warren do surgery to his bad hand so he
could fight in the war. He most likely wont ever be a
silversmith, but he can atleast fight.
