World in a Hybrid State
We are witnessing, what we in the PR world call the “Hybrid Approach” to business and public
communication, to represent a globalised world, in which there are contrasts in the consumption as well as
communications and the dissemination of information. The fact that publics exist everywhere is as much a
reality as their distinct identities. The challenge to communicate and engage with them that not everyone
wants to listen to, and given that media exists across the globe, one form of media is not a given standard.
Publics in some markets have 'evolved'. As a result, there can't be a single model of business or a single way
of communication or a common public that behaves like imitations of each other or in a homogenous
manner that some markets have the comfort of.
Media also has to adapt to the ever changing evolution.A reporter the story-tellers that is us and the
audience are no longer the same That audience too, is changing. They don't have merely one
source of information. They have multiple sources. To many this hybrid form is a challenge and to others,
it is an opportunity and a serious one for PR industry which knows what it is to engage with people
whoever and wherever they may be.
