3D Systems has four categories of products and services
We are the recognized global 3D content-to print pioneer and leader. We out innovate our competitors through continued business model and technology innovations. Over the past couple of years, we extended our revenue leadership position further, assumed printer units sales leadership and drove substantial material growth that contributed to significant financial strength and flexibility . This strength enabled us to introduced significant new products, to fortify our print engines and materials portfolio and to complete several key acquisitions, thatdoubled our global coverage and put in place many of the required building blocks for future growth and create a great deal of value for our customers, partners and investors. Now, after two and a half decades of pioneering and leading the product development revolution, we are bringing the disruptive power of our 3D printing technology to the consumer, to primary education and to the manufacturing floor.
Our broad range of high performance printers includes seven print engines with price points ranging from a $1,300 home printer for kids and their parents, all the way up to $950,000 for a production printer that can print an entire Toyota Camry dashboard in one piece. We believe that our unparalleled printer portfolio is the cornerstone to our all-time record periods of printer revenue and units shipped, benefiting from the strategic re-alignment of our entire printer portfolio mix towards lower priced printers.
This is a quick overview of 4 print engines, SLA, SLS, FTI and MJM
The combination of various printing technology and this wide range of materials provides an industry leading range of solutions
We not only have a broad range of printing solutions but also a broad range of 3D Authoring Solutions
Through a series of well-timed and executed acquisitions of domestic and international service providers and significant technology investments, we emerged as a leading on-demand parts service provider with the widest range of additive and traditional capabilities. Our on-demand parts services are ideal for both low and high-volume applications. At the heart of our differentiated capability is our proprietary Q-soft operating platform that provides instant online quoting for custom parts, leveraged fulfillment for optimal capacity utilization, an integrated sales, project management and manufacturing process, and unmatched manufacturing services. We firmly believe that on-demand parts services gives us unfiltered direct access to end users, providing them with the latest ideation to production solutions. This access allows us to shape our customers’ brand expectations and build a sticky relationship, because customers who buy parts buy printers and customers who buy printers continue to buy on-demand custom parts.
Customers use 3D Systems products for dozens of medical applications
Here is a sample list of major medical companies as customers
Our 3D Authoring Solutions like Geomagic Freeform are used extensively in the design of custom medical devices
It is nothing short of incredible what type of procedures are being done today with the aid of 3D printed models and patient specific instrumentation. However the usage is still relatively small compared to some of the other medical devices that have crossed over from being a low volume high cost surgical aid to a mass produced, mass customized low cost rapid manufacturing medical device
We are also developing various medical devices of our own including digital hand braces
We are also developing other customized medical devices such as artificial limb cladding and customized fracture bracing. These products are not on the market at this time but beta testing is ongoing.
One good example is Align Technologies. We have been working with them since they started in 1997. Today they make over 40,000 aligners molded on SLA Models produced on the SLA7000.
Another example of a traditional fabrication techniques that have gone digital is dentistry. Three major factors that have driven this. 1. Crown and bridges being replaced by dental implants 2. Traditional hand stacked porcelain on top of a hand cast chrome cobalt metal cap being replaced by milled or pressed ceramics. 3. The massive movement from metal restorations to all ceramic.
The existing marketplace for clinical medical models is fairly mature and is relatively common for complex surgical procedures. However a model that is used in a clinical application and designed by a medical professional is very expensive and can take a few weeks to deliver.
The affordable ProJet® 1200 3D printer from 3D Systems is a professional 3D printer right on your desktop. Parts made on the ProJet 1200 are accurate, have fine detail and are castable. It is ideal for dental wax-ups, jewelry and other castings, and the durable, stiff parts are also great for general plastic prototypes.
Today medical modeling is still a very labor intensive requiring skilled medical professionals to create medical models. For clinical applications they are worth the high cost but for non-clinical applications there hasn’t been a practical way to lower the cost of creation and manufacturing of the medical models.
The feedback we got from medical professionals was that the application had to be very easy to use and models had to be easy to order or print in-house. If so, the usage of medical models would change from being a rare usage for special cases to a mass adoption as a patient education and practice marketing tool used for nearly every case.
This lead to the creation of Bespoke Modeling, a new cloud based medical modeling application that produces lifelike 3D printable models in just a few button clicks.
With Bespoke modeling you get lifelike 3D images and printable models with just a few button clicks. The imaging center / oral surgeon can easily document a case for the patient and referring physician with annotations and hot-linked views and labels.
Share a case with referring physicians and patients
Imaging centers and/or physicians with their own scanning systems can “Share” an exam with other users without having to move around hundreds of megabytes of data. They can even “give” minutes to other registered users like patients, referring physicians and off site surgical centers.
