Compliment the students on entering the Emergency Medical Responder program. Explain that helping others in their time of greatest need—when they are sick, injured, or possibly even dying—is a tremendous honor and not something that just anyone can do well. Let the students know that they are entering a modern public-service system (known as EMS) that has a great history of invention, accomplishment, innovation, and excellence—all with a core focus on helping people and saving lives. Explain that regardless of their reason for attending the training—whether for job skills, advancement, requirement, or just personal interest—they are on their way to becoming an important and necessary component of their community’s EMS system.
