competent teachers, like all other
subject teachers. PETs also need to
study their subject (Physical
Education) w.e.f. undergraduate
level.
Philosophy of the Four Year
Proposal

The University of Delhi decided to
convert all its three year
undergraduate programmes to four
year programmes. IGIPESS had
been conducting a three year B.Sc.
(PEHES) w.e.f. 1987 and was also
to convert it into four years.
Opportunity Availed

Since, IGIPESS had the expertise of
24 doctorate teachers, they kept in
mind the employability of students
and modified its three year B.Sc.
course to four year professional
innovative four year B.P.Ed. course as
per pre-service teacher training
requirements.
Professional Acumen Utilized

Since, the Institute is governed by the
ordinances and directives of the University of
Delhi, it had to switch over to four year
programme w.e.f. admissions of July, 2013 on
the discontinuation of all three year
undergraduate courses. However, the Principal,
IGIPESS being a member of Academic Council
advocated that four year B.P.Ed. must also be
got approved from NCTE. It may be mentioned
here that many universities in India have not yet
applied to NCTE on the plea that Universities are
also statutory bodies and need not get NCTE
recognition which is their ignorance.
Reason to Start w.e.f. 2013-14

Since, IGIPESS had all the requisite
infrastructure because it is already
running two courses (B.P.Ed.- one
year) and M.P.Ed. (Two years)
recognized by NCTE. It had no
difficulty to prepare another teacher
training programme by getting
additional class rooms/lab space/
teachers with grant from GNCTD.
