International Coaching Week is February 5-11, 2012

         Message from Marty Vondrell
         President, Denver Coach Federation

We started off the year with such a great meeting in January. I am very appreciative of the great
attendance and energy of the meeting, and all the SIGs that came before the meeting.

We also welcomed in a new board of directors during the meeting. I am very excited to be
surrounded by such a great group of people, and the other volunteers that make this ICF chapter
         such a special group.

As many of you know, I am a leadership coach. I constantly study leadership and how I can be a
better coach and leader. There are four main principles that I subscribe to when it comes to
leadership, and I wonder if you are utilizing them all as you lead yourself and your coaching into
your future. Coaching itself is such a great leadership activity because we are in the infancy of an
industry that presents such promise to the future of people, their communities and the
organizations that are built by people. I got these principles from a mentor of mine, Pam Boney.
She founded the Tilt 360 Leadership Predictor because of the opportunities in coaching leadership
to anyone that has the competencies, intelligence and drive to be a leader. I believe - in fact, I
know - that leadership can be learned because it is based on character traits (chosen personas),
         not personality traits (innate).

The first principle is Balanced. We need to be balanced leaders. We need to use all four
meta-factors of leadership somewhat proportionately. They are Wisdom (Head), Humanity

1 of 8 1/30/2012 10:43 PM
(Heart), Resilience (Spirit), and Courage (Gut or Body) to reveal ourselves as a whole person
         leader.

The second principle is Conscious. We want to increase our awareness of who we are and how we
are received by others. We need to show up with others in a way that we connect on all the
different levels that are possible. This awareness needs to be about all the meta-factors of
         leadership.

The third principle is Creative. We need to bring our ingenuity and ideas utilizing our unique
combination of strengths to our leadership. We all have strengths in our unique leadership and
through our development of those strengths, we also have to be conscious of over-using those
strengths so that we do not derail our progress.

The fourth principle is Inspired. We need to bring our own unique attributes and proclivities to
how we lead ourselves and others. This will happen if we are consciously employing the other
principles and increase our understanding of ourselves.

I will talk more about leadership in the coming year, and I want us all to become the leaders we
intend. These principles can help you to grow yourself and your loved ones into your grandest
         imagined world.

         With the warmest regards,
         Marty Vondrell
         President, Denver Coach Federation

Next DCF Monthly Meeting: February 9

         Date: February 9, 2012

         Time: 7:00PM to 9:00PM
(SIGs start at 6:00PM before the general meeting)

Location: PPA Event Center, 2105 Decautur St, Denver, CO 80211

         Speaker: Doug Stevenson

         Topic: "Storytelling for Coaches"

As a coach, you hear stories from your clients and prospects all the time. Perhaps you share a
story or two, as well. Stories are the way we explain, justify and interpret the events of our lives.

The right story, strategically crafted and told in a compelling way, will help you close more
business. Whether you are meeting with a potential client one-on-one, or speaking in front of a
group, you’ll be able to overcome objections and answer questions more effectively with a story
than with facts and logic alone.

Would you like to grow your business? Every Rotary Club, Sertoma Club, and business networking
group is looking for speakers on a weekly basis to give a 20 – 30 minute talk. Doug will share a
simple methodology for using strategically-chosen stories in your presentations that frame what
you do as a coach and give your listeners a "test drive" of what it is like to work with you. With
Doug's engaging method, you'll have people asking to schedule an appointment with you
         immediately after you speak.

Are you preparing to give a keynote speech or conduct a workshop? Do you want to conduct a
breakout session at the ICF annual conference? Stories are the foundational pieces of any
presentation. They’re fun for you, fun for your audience and they engage attention while they
         teach.

2 of 8 1/30/2012 10:43 PM
This is a must-attend meeting if you want to learn the secrets of next level storytelling for
coaches. At the end of this talk you will be able to:

Identify three strategic sales stories to use in one-on-one or group presentations.
Answer an objection or question with the right story.
Make the process of partnering with a coach an essential element in personal and
               professional success.

         About Doug Stevenson

Doug Stevenson is a former actor, now professional speaker, trainer and speaker’s coach. He is
the author of the book, Doug Stevenson’s Story Theater Method (formerly titled Never Be Boring
Again – Make Your Business Presentations Capture Attention, Inspire Action and Produce Results),
which details his method combining acting, comedy and storytelling techniques for business
presentations. He is also the creator of The How to Write and Deliver a Dynamite Speech System.

Doug has coached hundreds of business professionals, speakers, coaches and trainers on strategic
storytelling and speech construction and delivery. He also helps coaches enhance their marketing
presentations with effective stories and metaphors. Doug has brought his acting experience to the
keynote platform to bring a unique perspective to speaking and coaching. He helps presenters use
strategically chosen and crafted stories to make their content more entertaining, powerful,

exploring coaching as a profession and who have not yet started the process of becoming a coach.

There are many benefits to membership in DCF starting with being able to attend the monthly
meetings at no additional cost. The educational presentations during the meetings are delivered

opportunity to network with other coaches and participate in one of the Special Interest Groups
(SIGs). The SIGs are led by experienced coaches, giving you the opportunity to learn and engage
in lively discussion. The SIGs are held immediately prior to the meeting, and we invite you to
check them out. In addition to the SIGs and monthly educational programming, we also have
other programs and events such as workshops and tele-classes with reduced rates for members.

started join together to support their chosen field, magic happens. So please join us and help
         create the magic.

Denver Coach Federation Newsletter February 2012

  • 1. FEBRUARY 2012 IN THIS ISSUE: Message from Marty Vondrell, President Next DCF Monthly Meeting: February 9, 2012 Special Interest Group (SIG) Meetings Calling All Volunteers! Membership in the DCF DCF is on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter & YouTube! Resource Library General Meeting Information Contact Us International Coaching Week is February 5-11, 2012 Message from Marty Vondrell President, Denver Coach Federation We started off the year with such a great meeting in January. I am very appreciative of the great attendance and energy of the meeting, and all the SIGs that came before the meeting. We also welcomed in a new board of directors during the meeting. I am very excited to be surrounded by such a great group of people, and the other volunteers that make this ICF chapter such a special group. As many of you know, I am a leadership coach. I constantly study leadership and how I can be a better coach and leader. There are four main principles that I subscribe to when it comes to leadership, and I wonder if you are utilizing them all as you lead yourself and your coaching into your future. Coaching itself is such a great leadership activity because we are in the infancy of an industry that presents such promise to the future of people, their communities and the organizations that are built by people. I got these principles from a mentor of mine, Pam Boney. She founded the Tilt 360 Leadership Predictor because of the opportunities in coaching leadership to anyone that has the competencies, intelligence and drive to be a leader. I believe - in fact, I know - that leadership can be learned because it is based on character traits (chosen personas), not personality traits (innate). The first principle is Balanced. We need to be balanced leaders. We need to use all four meta-factors of leadership somewhat proportionately. They are Wisdom (Head), Humanity 1 of 8 1/30/2012 10:43 PM
  • 2. (Heart), Resilience (Spirit), and Courage (Gut or Body) to reveal ourselves as a whole person leader. The second principle is Conscious. We want to increase our awareness of who we are and how we are received by others. We need to show up with others in a way that we connect on all the different levels that are possible. This awareness needs to be about all the meta-factors of leadership. The third principle is Creative. We need to bring our ingenuity and ideas utilizing our unique combination of strengths to our leadership. We all have strengths in our unique leadership and through our development of those strengths, we also have to be conscious of over-using those strengths so that we do not derail our progress. The fourth principle is Inspired. We need to bring our own unique attributes and proclivities to how we lead ourselves and others. This will happen if we are consciously employing the other principles and increase our understanding of ourselves. I will talk more about leadership in the coming year, and I want us all to become the leaders we intend. These principles can help you to grow yourself and your loved ones into your grandest imagined world. With the warmest regards, Marty Vondrell President, Denver Coach Federation marty@martyvondrell.com Next DCF Monthly Meeting: February 9 Date: February 9, 2012 Time: 7:00PM to 9:00PM (SIGs start at 6:00PM before the general meeting) Location: PPA Event Center, 2105 Decautur St, Denver, CO 80211 Speaker: Doug Stevenson Topic: "Storytelling for Coaches" As a coach, you hear stories from your clients and prospects all the time. Perhaps you share a story or two, as well. Stories are the way we explain, justify and interpret the events of our lives. The right story, strategically crafted and told in a compelling way, will help you close more business. Whether you are meeting with a potential client one-on-one, or speaking in front of a group, you’ll be able to overcome objections and answer questions more effectively with a story than with facts and logic alone. Would you like to grow your business? Every Rotary Club, Sertoma Club, and business networking group is looking for speakers on a weekly basis to give a 20 – 30 minute talk. Doug will share a simple methodology for using strategically-chosen stories in your presentations that frame what you do as a coach and give your listeners a "test drive" of what it is like to work with you. With Doug's engaging method, you'll have people asking to schedule an appointment with you immediately after you speak. Are you preparing to give a keynote speech or conduct a workshop? Do you want to conduct a breakout session at the ICF annual conference? Stories are the foundational pieces of any presentation. They’re fun for you, fun for your audience and they engage attention while they teach. 2 of 8 1/30/2012 10:43 PM
  • 3. This is a must-attend meeting if you want to learn the secrets of next level storytelling for coaches. At the end of this talk you will be able to: Identify three strategic sales stories to use in one-on-one or group presentations. Answer an objection or question with the right story. Make the process of partnering with a coach an essential element in personal and professional success. About Doug Stevenson Doug Stevenson is a former actor, now professional speaker, trainer and speaker’s coach. He is the author of the book, Doug Stevenson’s Story Theater Method (formerly titled Never Be Boring Again – Make Your Business Presentations Capture Attention, Inspire Action and Produce Results), which details his method combining acting, comedy and storytelling techniques for business presentations. He is also the creator of The How to Write and Deliver a Dynamite Speech System. Doug has coached hundreds of business professionals, speakers, coaches and trainers on strategic storytelling and speech construction and delivery. He also helps coaches enhance their marketing presentations with effective stories and metaphors. Doug has brought his acting experience to the keynote platform to bring a unique perspective to speaking and coaching. He helps presenters use strategically chosen and crafted stories to make their content more entertaining, powerful, engaging and memorable.
