3.  Provides discounts to assist most schools and
libraries in the United States to obtain affordable
telecommunications and Internet access.
 Funded by the Universal Service Administrative
Company (USAC) under the direction of the
Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
What is E-Rate?

4.  Must supply elementary or secondary
education.
 May be public or private institutional day
or residential schools, or public charter
schools.
 Must operate as non-profit businesses.
 Cannot have an endowment exceeding
$50 million.

5.  Must be eligible for assistance from a
state library administrative agency under
the 1996 Library Service Act.
 Must have budgets completely separate
from any schools
 Cannot operate as for-profit businesses

6.  The district will pursue high-speed internet
for all classrooms and teaching areas.
 Professional development for Tech Specialists
and Teachers will occur from June 2010 –
June 2011.
 Assessments will be conducted to verify
student achievement in relation to internet
usage.
 Budget will be handled by Cynthia
Daniels, School Secretary.

7.  All Port Arthur ISD schools will apply for
funding under E-Rate in order to receive
high-speed internet for each classroom
and teaching area.
 Technology plans will be submitted by
April 28, 2011.
