SPA-SHOW.COM
Every year, ESI’s annual conference offers you the unique opportunity to
take a moment to renew your connection – with your peers, with your pro-
fession, with your passion. Because it turns out that, even though our
particular line of work is all about wellness and healthy living, we still live
in a fast-paced environment that doesn’t leave us much time to think.
So for 15 years now, professionals in our industry are given the chance
to spend two days away from their daily tasks, to mingle with their col-
leagues and suppliers, and to learn the latest tricks of the trade. Experts
from around the world reveal the latest trends, and how they will affect
your business in the near future. Management and marketing special-
ists provide their knowledge to help bring your vision to life—whether it
has to do with your pet project, your career or your business.
In addition to the numerous booths presenting their wares, exhibitors
provide valuable information in the form of interactive classes, where
you can decide what new service, product or equipment you’ll be offering
your clientele to further enhance their experience.
And of course, ESI’s annual conference wouldn’t be complete without
its master classes, on Sunday night. These are especially worthwhile as
they allow you to spend quality time with some of our most esteemed
educators. Just make sure you register early, as space is limited.
See you at the New Convention Centre!

The Art of Service Superiority
Monday 2:30 p.m. Room 110
The goal of every spa is to give great service. You see
it on websites, on brochures, and a lot of people talk
about it. What does “service superiority” really look like?
Come to this session and you will see what you can do
to make your service better than everyone else’s, and
then watch your bottom line grow.
DOUG COBURN
Douglas was the first male to graduate
from the Ottawa Academy of Aesthet-
ics and Hair, and as a mature student
saw a gap in the industry when it
came to men and spas. After co-cre-
ating The Little House Spa in rural
Ontario, he ventured into the open-
ing and operation and co-ownership of Canada’s largest
men’s spa, Bodé Spa of Ottawa, Ontario. Currently he
acts independently offering continuing education classes
in male esthetics, consulting, writing and spa services
in downtown Toronto and beyond. Douglas is a master
waxing instructor, certified master pedicurist, reflexolo-
gist, public speaker, and educator.
Reflexology & the Pedicure
Sunday 11:30 a.m. Room 112
Doug Coburn will show you the power, comfort and
diversity you can bring to your pedicure with Reflex-
ology. A review of the basic principles of Reflexology
including the way the body displays internal signals will
be presented in this lecture, along with some hands-on
exercises. Open your mind and your pedicure to one of
the world’s oldest modalities.
Diabetes & the Pedicure
– A Deadly Combination?
Sunday 2:30 p.m. Room 112
Diabetes is wreaking havoc on our population. Certainly
as our population ages we as esthetic professionals are
faced with a greater number of persons with this dis-
order. We can deliver effective pedicure care, however
we must know what to watch for and design foot care
around the problem. Is it not ironic that the feet being
so important to us are the first to suffer if diabetes is left
untreated? Doug Coburn will help you understand the
disease but also help you identify the diabetic client.
Knowing what to do and how to approach a diabetic
could truly save a foot, limb or life.

Reflexology for the Face

ance and rejuvenate the entire body. Reflexology for the

many common ailments. Reflexology for the face is non
invasive and can be an alternative to facial acupuncture
as well as a support. Reflexology for the face uses prin-
ciples based on ancient healing teachings. The treatment
is a valuable tool for health and beauty professionals
alike. During this session you will be introduced to the
principles of Reflexology for the Face, the techniques
and the treatment.

Five Fast Tracks to Stellar Body Mechanics
Sunday 11:30 a.m. Room 114
This self-care workshop is for estheticians, stylists, nail
techs and massage therapists seeking to escape the
cumulative negative effects of repetitive stress and strain.
At the end of a long day within a spa, a practitioner
should have enough energy to do the things they love in
their free time. Using too much energy in your practice
can make this difficult. Learn to transform the way you
work with clients through optimal body mechanics and
ergonomics. Beyond mere stances and posture, you will
learn five keys to optimizing the use of your resour-
ces while avoiding injury and burnout—conserving your
energy for a balanced life.
The Case for Creating a “Drama-Free” Spa
Sunday 2:30 p.m. Room 114
Does your spa suffer from dangerous drama levels?
Snarky employees. Perpetual tardiness. Chilly relations.
Simmering negativity. Drama: It is not just something
plaguing Donald Trump or the Kardashians—it is rub-
bing off on us all. Professionally and personally, it is
spiking up stress levels, corroding relationships, and
chewing away at precious resources of time, money, and
sanity. Bring on the good news! In this engaging, head-
scratching, why-didn’t-I-see-it-coming presentation, Eric
Stephenson is out to prove that within all our modern-
day stressing about stress, we have gotten things com-
pletely mixed up: drama is not just some side-effect of
stress, it is the root cause. His assertion is: “Drama is
the business disease of the 21st century”, where drama
creates stress, and stress drains your organization of pre-
cious time and money. Learn to pinpoint the source of
your spa’s drama and Eric’s “Drama-Free Communica-
tion Model” to put an end to problems that “just will not
go away.”
