5. USING MY SENSES
ON MY SITE:
5
SEE: The river which is more lower, muddy & murky than the main river next to the
resort. There are also a lot of rice plant around the river.
HEAR: There are a lot of sounds of birds chirping during the day while there are
sounds of frogs croaking and crickets at night.
SMELL: The polluted river, dew, grass and fresh air throughout the day
FEEL: I touched the mud which was slimy, the soil on higher grounds is soft and wet
TASTE: I tasted the grass and other plants where most are bitter or tasteless.
8. FOOD
-Catfishes feed on dragonflies, small fishes,
grasshoppers, worms & aquatic plants
HABITAT
-Inhabits muddy waters with moderate
currents where food resources are high
-Inhabits regions where food resources
can be replaced with others when one
kind is scarce in the habitat.
PREDATORS
-Catfishes gets eaten by Crocodiles,
Snakes, and is a popular food for
People.
9. Sucker-mouth
-Able to suck in prey so that it
wouldn’t escape
Oval sized mouth
-It can eat prey in murky waters
without the need of accuracy.
Slender Body
-Able to swim through tight surfaces
or obstacles
Barbells
-Able to feel or sense for prey in
murky and muddy waters
10. DEFENSE SYSTEM
Catfishes have sharp venomous ray-
fins that can stab through human skin
(as seen above)
Like other fishes, catfishes struggle to
break free when caught, whether it’s
from a net or hook.
Catfishes regularly hide under logs or
stumps from predators
The colour of catfishes camouflages
with the muddy water.
11. HABIT
AT
The catfishes on site have a very suitable habitat, whether it is
on low or high tide seasons.
LOW TIDE
Despite the hardship of having competition for food during the
low tide, padi plants are nearer to the river, therefore, the
catfish can reach grasshoppers, dragonflies & other insects when
they leap.
HIGH TIDE
Not much data have I collected on the high tide season of the
river but, interviewing fishermen have made me visualize the
river during the high tide, where they showed me how high the
river goes, pointing out the floodplain & how wide the river can
get. The river will be very wide and deep, giving enough space
for the many catfishes to not create competition for food sources.
12. USING MY SENSES
ON MY ANIMAL:
5
SEE: Spot Patterns on Upper Body, Wide mouth, Aggressive movement when caught
with net or fishing rod.
HEAR: Makes a deep, quiet sound when out of water (When caught).
SMELL: Smelly because of the polluted river.
FEEL: Slimy Texture because of thin layer of oil around it’s body and absence of scales.
TASTE: The catfishes are eaten with curry and has a mild flavor.
15. Surviving Skills
-One main root connects to three or
more grass
-Short roots because water is
already on the surface
Reproductive Skills
-Reproduces asexually, which
means they breed from the same
plant in one root making clones.
-Distributes seeds (grains) by
wind, spreading closely to
parent plants, populating a
large area with rice plant
16. Protective Skill
-Hard leaves because of strong movement of water in and
around of leaves so that it wouldn’t fall to the ground.
Habitat
-Populates in deep water in rivers or marshlands.
-In lowlands so that trees and other taller plants wouldn’t shade
them from sunlight
17. USING MY SENSES
ON MY PLANT:
5
SEE: Different shades of green between two sides of it’s grass, Grains of rice in some
ends of the grass, Sway movement with the wind, some parts of roots exposed
to surface.
HEAR: Rustling, due to animals or insects that move through the group of rice plant or
because of the wind that blows it.
SMELL: River Water smell because it’s source of water is from river
FEEL: Soft texture through the upper surface but rougher on the lower surface
TASTE: A Bitter taste of it’s grain because it’s not manufactured rice
