New -- Army Surgeon General warns about supplement
Army Surgeon General Lt. Gen. Patricia Horoho warned against the use of a dietary
supplement called OxyElite Pro. Backed up by guidance from the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration, Horoho said in a
memo to senior leaders that more than two dozen cases of acute hepatitis in Hawaii
since April, are linked to use of this product.
Department of Defense has ordered the removal of OxyElite Pro products from base
shelves. Typically, this product is available through GNC concessions.
Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall and Fort Belvoir Exchange General Manager
Ernilda Eiley said Oct. 21 that the Exchange and its GNC operations worldwide have
not carried any form of OxyElite containing DMAA (a stimulant, also known as
methylhexanamine) in its retail stores since December 2011.
She said the reformulated OxyElite without DMAA, was never carried in Exchange
retail stores and was removed from all military GNC locations on Army and Air Force
installations Oct. 9, 2013.
One Airman and one Marine suffered acute hepatitis linked to the product. No other
service personnel or family members have fallen ill.
Service personnel and their families who have been using his product should stop
immediately, Horoho said, and if you believe you have been harmed, see your health
care provider.
See FDA guidance here, CDC guidance here and log on to the Defense Department’s
Operation Supplement Safety web page here.

New -- Defense Civilian Personnel Data System has issues
The Civilian Human Resources Agency headquarters reports there is an issue
currently within DCPDS (myWorkplace, myBIZ for personal employee data at
http://CPOL.Army.mil) that prompts users to “update Java to version 7 update 45.”
This is NOT supported by DCPDS, and users without administrative rights will not be
able to download the update.
The prompt asks users to update from the java.com website when clicking on the
ARMY_REGION link. When the page opens as a pop-up, it cannot be blocked from
reoccurring, and the end result for the user is an error message and temporary lock-out
of DCPDS.
As a temporary fix, if a warning box opens with options to “Update Now” or
“Later,” opt for “Later,” then check the box in the lower right hand corner that says “do
not show me this message again.”
If you are logging in to DCPDS and are redirected to java.com for the recommended
update of version 7 update 45, call the Army Enterprise Service Desk at 1-866-335ARMY (2769) and put in a ticket for assistance.

New -- Report motorcycle ownership
If you own or operate a motorcycle, Marine Corps regulations require you to report
it to your command. (ALMAR 014-08 mandates all Marines declare motorcycle
ownership even if cycle is not at their current duty station or is not being currently
ridden) and/or ridership within 48 hours from checking into their command. In many
cases this is not happening.
Failure to comply with the ALMAR subjects the violator to punitive actions under
the UCMJ and possible loss of benefits in the event of a motorcycle accident or mishap
involving bodily injury.
Declaration of motorcycle ownership is easy. Contact the HQBN Safety and
Environmental Officer at 703-693-2501 and request that a Motorcycle Owner
Information Sheet via email or fax, fill it out and send it back. That's all that is required.

Survey seeks to get answers on child care needs
To better serve military service members and their families, we are conducting an
informal survey about your child care needs.
If you are in the ranks of O4 and below or E7 and below, are you now or have you
been on a wait list for the Cody Child Development Center on the Fort Myer portion of
Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall?
If you are no longer on a wait list for Cody CDC, please tell us why. For instance,
your child is now enrolled in the Cody CDC; you’ve found alternative child care; you
no longer need child care.
Please leave your comments about this issue on the JBM-HH Facebook page at
https://www.facebook.com/jbmhh/posts/10151934025617074 or email us at

Halloween ‘trick or treat’ details
It’s “trick or treat” time, and this event, long awaited by children of all ages, will take
place at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Thursday, Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Halloween is fun for everyone, but pay attention to these tips which come from the
U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center:
1. Supervise children, and limit their adventures in treat acquisition to the housing
area in which they reside and only residences with lighted entry ways.
2. Make sure their costumes are fire resistant and easy to see, short enough to
prevent tripping.
3. Use reflective tape or “glow” spray paint or a chemical glow light. 4. Always use
sidewalks and crosswalks; look in all directions before walking across the street (don’t
cut through yards). 5. Make sure masks or head coverings don’t block vision. 6. Caution
children against vandalism and causing damage to property. 7. Carry a flashlight and if
a pumpkin is carried, be sure it’s lit with a battery, not a candle. 8. Feed your child a
full meal; inspect the treats before they are eaten. 9. Pet owners: prevent your pet from
being a menace to children. 10. If you think your child has eaten something that made
him sick, call 911 or the Poison Control Hotline at 1-800-222-1222.

Backed up by guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration, Horoho said in a memo to senior leaders that more than two dozen cases of acute hepatitis in Hawaii since April, are linked to use of this product. Department of Defense has ordered the removal of OxyElite Pro products from base shelves. Typically, this product is available through GNC concessions. Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall and Fort Belvoir Exchange General Manager Ernilda Eiley said Oct. 21 that the Exchange and its GNC operations worldwide have not carried any form of OxyElite containing DMAA (a stimulant, also known as methylhexanamine) in its retail stores since December 2011. She said the reformulated OxyElite without DMAA, was never carried in Exchange retail stores and was removed from all military GNC locations on Army and Air Force installations Oct. 9, 2013. One Airman and one Marine suffered acute hepatitis linked to the product. No other service personnel or family members have fallen ill. Service personnel and their families who have been using his product should stop immediately, Horoho said, and if you believe you have been harmed, see your health care provider. See FDA guidance here, CDC guidance here and log on to the Defense Department’s Operation Supplement Safety web page here. New -- Defense Civilian Personnel Data System has issues
  • 3. The Civilian Human Resources Agency headquarters reports there is an issue currently within DCPDS (myWorkplace, myBIZ for personal employee data at http://CPOL.Army.mil) that prompts users to “update Java to version 7 update 45.” This is NOT supported by DCPDS, and users without administrative rights will not be able to download the update. The prompt asks users to update from the java.com website when clicking on the ARMY_REGION link. When the page opens as a pop-up, it cannot be blocked from reoccurring, and the end result for the user is an error message and temporary lock-out of DCPDS. As a temporary fix, if a warning box opens with options to “Update Now” or “Later,” opt for “Later,” then check the box in the lower right hand corner that says “do not show me this message again.” If you are logging in to DCPDS and are redirected to java.com for the recommended update of version 7 update 45, call the Army Enterprise Service Desk at 1-866-335ARMY (2769) and put in a ticket for assistance. If you are in the ranks of O4 and below or E7 and below, are you now or have you been on a wait list for the Cody Child Development Center on the Fort Myer portion of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall? If you are no longer on a wait list for Cody CDC, please tell us why. For instance, your child is now enrolled in the Cody CDC; you’ve found alternative child care; you no longer need child care. Please leave your comments about this issue on the JBM-HH Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/jbmhh/posts/10151934025617074 or email us at usarmy.jbmhh.asa.list.pao-all@mail.mil, if you prefer. Halloween ‘trick or treat’ details It’s “trick or treat” time, and this event, long awaited by children of all ages, will take place at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Thursday, Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. Halloween is fun for everyone, but pay attention to these tips which come from the U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center: 1. Supervise children, and limit their adventures in treat acquisition to the housing area in which they reside and only residences with lighted entry ways. 2. Make sure their costumes are fire resistant and easy to see, short enough to prevent tripping. 3. Use reflective tape or “glow” spray paint or a chemical glow light. 4. Always use sidewalks and crosswalks; look in all directions before walking across the street (don’t cut through yards). 5. Make sure masks or head coverings don’t block vision. 6. Caution children against vandalism and causing damage to property. 7. Carry a flashlight and if a pumpkin is carried, be sure it’s lit with a battery, not a candle. 8. Feed your child a full meal; inspect the treats before they are eaten. 9. Pet owners: prevent your pet from being a menace to children. 10. If you think your child has eaten something that made him sick, call 911 or the Poison Control Hotline at 1-800-222-1222.
