Minneapolis CBD attracting suburban tenants
Chart of the week: April 13, 2015
• The Minneapolis CBD has attracted nearly 200,000 square feet of suburban tenants in new lease deals
year-to-date. Many companies are increasingly attracted to the CBD based on a desire to recruit and
retain employees; the increase in the downtown population, access to transit and an abundance of
amenities are key factors contributing to this trend.
• This helps build on the momentum from 2013 and 2014. In Q4 2013, Be The Match signed a 240,000-
square-foot lease for a new headquarters which is currently under construction in the North Loop
neighborhood (the nonprofit is relocating from Northeast Minneapolis). In 2014 more than 188,000 square
feet of lease deals were struck that relocated tenants to the CBD from other submarkets.
