STANDARDIZED TEST

 Any test in which the same test is given in the same

manner to all test takers is a standardized test.

FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS

 Measures student progress throughout the

instructional process and helps teachers adapt
instruction to fit the learning needs of all students.

Limitations
The feedback comes too late and is far
removed from the creation of the work and
the decisions students made to be useful.
Despite teachers’ herculean efforts to mark
and return homework or tests, the feedback
does little to help children improve

SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT
• Score on a formal test with
no other feedback
• Perhaps useful for some
purposes, little use for
students
• Turns to be an ego booster,
more often an ego
deflator.

well as to accept criticism offered in the spirit

LET USE OWN DEVICES

•As students have increasing access to digital tools and integrate them in
learning they should be evaluated with their tools
•Math educators feel that calculators and computers actually enhance
students’ Mathematical capabilities

 Give students necessary and helpful feedback (FORMATIVE),
 Encourage them to do better and better (IPSATIVE),
 Provide them with feedback from fellow students (PEER),
 Include evaluations from a global audience (REAL-WORLD),

 Get them to understand their own progress (SELF-ASSESSMENT)
 Allow them to use their own tools (21ST CENTURY) and,
 Because we have to, satisfy the outside world by using standardized

tests (SUMMATIVE).
