Drunk driving is a serious problem, with about 30% of Americans involved in an alcohol-related crash in their lifetime. 18-20 year olds account for over 10% of drunk driving trips despite being our future. Punishments for drunk driving include over 1 million arrests in 2003 and judges ordering signs for those who kill while driving drunk. While immigration statistics estimate 11-12 million undocumented immigrants in the US, they make up large portions of certain occupations like farming and construction. The foreign-born population in the US has grown to 28.4 million people, over half of which now come from Latin America rather than Europe. Rivera won the debate because innocent lives should not be lost to drunk drivers regardless of citizenship status.
