2   types of conditioning
Types of Conditioning
  Classical    Conditioning:
    natural   reflex that occurs in response to a stimulus


  Operant      Conditioning:
         learning is a result of positive/negative
         reinforcements and punishments
Operant Conditioning
    Positive reinforcement:
        Add something to increase desired behavior
    Negative reinforcement:
        Remove something to increase desired
         behavior
    Positive punishment:
        Add something to decrease undesired behavior
    Negative punishment:
        Remove something to decrease undesired
         behavior

o   Researched physiology and digestion
o   Won Nobel Prize in Physiology in 1904
o   Became famous for behavioral experiments with
    dogs
     o Used classical conditioning to teach dogs to
       salivate when he rang a bell
 Positive   Reinforcements
     Commending student on correct answer
     Praising students to their parents
     Stickers on good assignments
     Picking students as “special helpers” for good
      behavior
     Prizes for good behavior
 Positive   Punishments
     Behavioral contracts
     Detention

    Making final exam optional (with appropriate
     grades)
    Lowest grade gets dropped
    Homework pass
