Anything that you see here today can be done with one Macbook or iMac, an Internet Connection, and a Mobile Me Subscription. Look online at the Apple site, and shop in the Education Store for discounts. Mention Internet limitations at school site, and that they might have the same issues that we do.
iLife ‘08 would work just as well if you already have a Mac that has not been upgraded yet.
Specify that I use this site for my current students, and that I also have a site for the Academy in the works for SY10. Highlight the number of hits for this past school year. Mention that most of the updating for this site has to be done from home because of the security and firewall issues at Dwyer.
Demonstrate how easy it is by creating a site with only a Blog page for this conference. Allow for comments, and ask for feedback on the session by leaving comments before they leave the conference. Use picture in the NAF Session folder for the front page.
Spend 5 – 7 minutes at your tables discussing some ideas that you might have to create a site, or ways that I may improve my site.
iCal is included on every Mac purchased, and it is not part of the iLife ‘09. Very useful because every change that is made in iCal is automatically updated on the website as well. It also syncs over the air to update on my iPod Touch. Updated calendar in my hands at all times. I used a website http://iwebfaq.org to assist me with getting the Calendar onto my site.
iMovie is my new favorite! It is included as part of the iLife ‘09 that comes with every Mac. Editing video can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be. I like to keep it easy. Preset themes are included. Great title screens, transitions, and credits. We plan to use this heavily with our weekly video podcasts in our Academy. Show Catfish Video if time allows???
This has become a handy tool for me. Has anyone had their whole world lost because you lost your Zip Drive? This is a good place to store some of your important information. Community Service Forms, Permission Slips, Worksheets, Lecture Notes, etc. I like to use it for a place to upload important documents that the students will need using the Public Folder. I recommend using PDF Format when you can. It’s accessible via the web, so you can post a link to your Public Folder anywhere on your page.
Very cool because you can update from nearly anywhere. Mention recent Iran Election protests, iPhone Release, News stations. Easy updates from any mobile phone, iPod Touch on WiFi, etc. It’s a great way to put frequent, regular updates to the happenings with you or your Academy. Mention the “widget” on the front page of my site. Easily copied code for the iWeb site. Mention the new Tweet Deck for the Mac or iPhone.
Great little program that I recently started using. You can record yourself while working on your machine. It also records yourself while presenting PPTS, etc. Easily uploads the video to multiple formats. iMovie, YouTube, etc.
Terrific little Planbook program that I absolutely must get more in the habit of using. It’s totally customizable to fit any sort of schedule that your school may have. It’s created by a teacher, so he has thought of nearly everything. Files or Web Links can be attached directly to each lesson for each class. I have just recently started with toying with the publishing lessons online with some success.
