THE NATIONAL CREATIVITY NETWORK WEBINAR SERIES “RIPPLE EFFECT”
The National Creativity Network explores ongoing possibilities around our national collaborations and follow-up on the ideas and energy inspired by the 2010 Creativity World Forum. We will examine some of the issues that were discussed at the National Creativity Network Launch and spend time exploring a sampling of the work happening around the nation.
We will spotlight several projects focused on telling the story of imagination, creativity, and innovation in action. Sam Chaltain, will talk about the launch of his new Faces of Learning project which is a multi-year national grassroots campaign that seeks to build the demand for – and the capacity to foster – deep, meaningful learning for all people. The campaign will kick off in March 2011 in conjunction with the release of a new book in which 50 Americans – from students to social workers to the Secretary of Education – share personal stories about their most powerful learning experiences, both inside and outside of school.
Sam Chaltain’s conversations with Sir Ken Robinson quickly zeroed in on the connection between learning and creativity, and Mr. Chaltain now speaks of learning and creativity as two sides of the same coin. Jean Maginnis and David O’Fallon will share their idea for how the National Creativity Network might join forces with the Faces of Learning movement to use video/audio to tell the selected stories of highly creative, passionate, risk-taking, playful people from each state in business, education and life and pull the two efforts together. We want to know how you think this might support your work.

Please mute your phone: STAR-6Email: questions, comments, or Bob MorrisonWe’ve got a great session planned. We’ll have a brief program followed by an opportunity for you to submit and ask questions and also some have indicated they’d like to share their updates of what’s going on in their networks locally. The second half of the webinar is reserved for that. If you do have something to share, please send an email to Bob Morrison at the address on your screen. Bob will be keeping us on time today and will also field those requests.
We’re going to dovetail on the theme of the Creativity World Forum which was: Converge. Connect. Create because we think that the National Creativity is about doing this as well. This webinar is a convergence, an opportunity to connect, and from it, we hope will come creative practical outcomes that we can all work together on to move the vision of transformation forward.
Again I want to welcome those who are on the call today, but who were unable to be with us in November. During that session, we asked each attendee to give us feedback on two questions:What do you want from the NCN?What will you and your network offer to the NCN?So I just wanted to start by sharing the high level outcomes of that exercise.
First we asked what people WANT from the Network. Many of the responses fit into these three categories…
Next we asked what people would bring to the Network. The responses fit broadly into these three categories……next we’re going to talk about one of the ways that you can begin to access a burgeoning project to make new connections and engage your networks in the work of transformation. To talk about this, I’d like to introduce Jean Maginnis, Director of the Maine Center for Creativity. She is joined by Sam Chaltain, editor of the just released book, Faces of Learning.
