Evaluation question 2
1. How effective is the combination of your main
product and ancillary texts?
1
Introduction:
My main product is the music video and the two ancillary tasks are the
magazine advert and the digipak.
Main product:
As mentioned above, my main product was the music video. I spent most of
my time making it- Almost one whole year! I have effectively combined my
music video with my two ancillary tasks, but in some different ways from the
usual.
I have used black as my singer’s costume which is sort of a ‘sexy’ colour and
also is a good contrast to red which I have used in my magazine advert and
digipak.
2. How effective is the combination of your main
product and ancillary texts?
2
Magazine Advert:
The magazine advert looks a little different from the music video and the
digipak, but there is a lot that makes the ad combine with them.
I have made a double spread magazine ad for the middle page of the
magazine. We see that there is no place, where the singer is holding a guitar
in the music video, but in the ad she is standing with the guitar. The logic
behind this is to show its audience, at once, that this ad is something related
to music. I have kept the background simple red with a shade of black on its
corners to give it a smokey outline. Also I have added 3 lights on the top in
the middle to put some effect and focus on the name of the singer and album
title. It gives the effect of a spotlight, for the audience to look at.
3. How effective is the combination of your main
product and ancillary texts?
3
One more point to note is that why I have kept the entire font in white and
the album title “THE LUCKIEST GIRL” in a golden yellow colour. The reason for
that was, firstly, that I wanted the title to stand out and gain attention at
once, and, secondly, that the colour of the guitar was standing out the most
as it was a yellow golden colour and I didn’t want that, so I matched the
golden yellow colour of the guitar with the colour of the album title and
added a gradient to it to give it a shiny effect.
Digipak:
If we look at the digipak, it also looks very different from the magazine ad,
but I have logics to that as well.
In my digipak the outside part of the digipak has the main colours of red and
black, but the inside part that is the top part has lighter colours that are pink
and purple. This is to show that the darker colours are on the outside and the
lighter colours on the inside. This is done to keep the consistency of the
digipak. I have mentioned the lyrics also, but not of the whole song, this is so
that the audience looks at the lyrics and wants to hear them in the song and
this will force them to buy the DVD.
4. How effective is the combination of your main
product and ancillary texts?
4
Behind the lyrics I have taken screenshots of my video so that the audience
can make a picture in their minds of what might be happening in the music
video and what the song might be about, and they might want to explore the
DVD further.
I have written the description of the album as well so that my buyers can
read it, relate to it and then buy it if they like it.
The place where the couple is facing each other and the boy is looking at the
girl, but the girl is very shyly looking down, depicts the Pakistani culture, to
some extent, in which the boy protects his girlfriend/fiancé and the girl is
somewhat shy in her behavior with the boy. The heart I put between them
clearly depicts a love story in the album which combines with the video and
magazine ad because of the red in it.
5. How effective is the combination of your main
product and ancillary texts?
5
I have made the DVD from a screen shot of the couple while they are sitting
on the grass. I did this so that the audience gets an idea about what’s going
to happen in the music video and what it’s all about. I have bordered it with
purple flowers and given it a transparency effect to add to the beauty.
Conclusion:
So, this is how I combined the three tasks together.
