Talk given at Sydney University on 4 August 2015. Across many parts of our lives we are faced with the increasing availability of data to support decision making. With every element of the research process moving online, there are many new sources of data, as well as improved old sources of data, that can provide information on the performance, value and use of research and researchers. But there is a problem. The proliferation of proxy data, and their naive equation with such weakly defined concepts as “quality” and “excellence”, have lead to a reliance on rankings and quantitative measures as institutional targets. More than this the adoption of these instrumental targets has lead us away from a critical discussion of institutional values, indeed of what the institution is for. I will argue that it is only by moving away from such vague terms as “quality”, “excellence” and “impact” and focussing on institutional values and a well articulated mission that institutions of scholarship will continue to be relevant for the future. It is through interrogating the goals of the institution that the enormous potential resource of data on the research enterprise can be realised. Using the data effectively will allow us a window on how knowledge actually moves and is used. In combination with a clear sense of institutional goals this provides great opportunities for institutions to differentiate themselves from the pack.

uilding solutions in SharePoint isn’t simply about getting the functionality right based on the business requirements. Developers must think about the entire user experience (UX), which goes far beyond the technical aspects of the solution. It’s no longer good enough to meet the specifications. We must exceed them in terms of usability. This takes many developers out of their comfort zones and into the messy world of end users. In this interactive session, we’ll discuss questions like: * How should the user feel when they use this piece of functionality? * Will they perceive that this functionality saves them work or creates new work? * How will the functionality compare to what they see on the consumer Web? * How can we use technologies which haven’t historically been considered mainstream SharePoint developer tools (like jQuery and CSS) to make SharePoint feel more like the sites people love? We’ll look at good and bad examples from SharePoint itself as well as specific customizations.

Focusing on enhanced user-interaction avoiding a simple like button by adding a post-interaction rate feature that technically creates an extra dimension into liking a post. User is able to save pictures to the cloud. Saving memory effectively and creating on-time content. The main purpose is to enhance Privacy and creating an advanced user interface/interaction allowing a fair share of reaction to a post. When a user posts a picture, the following user interacts with the picture after tapping the PIB (Post Interaction Button). The picture will be evaluated as long as the user has the post in view. Also allow no duplication to the post shared by the user. When a user posts a p icture it shouldn’t be devalued. Our app ensures that the post will be rated according to the user interaction. Able to publish posts on other social medias, making it uni-directional. Introducing this unique social networking mobile-based application where a user can share photos, videos and texts with extreme privacy, uploading them even by making them anonymous to the group. Assuring a reliable place to take and share and save posts from anywhere around the world.
