  • 15. Some Questions to Choose From Use GIL Find (the catalog) to search for one book that might be good for your annotated bibliography. List the book's title and call number. What floor is it on? OR Use GIL Find to search for the book YOUR RELEVANT BOOK HERE. What is the book's call number? Name one of the articles databases that we reviewed today. List the full title.  List two things that you should look for when determining if an article is scholarly or popular. Please check all answers that apply. In almost all cases, a scholarly article will... Be lengthy—5 pages or more Have an author or authors who are experts in the subject area (rather than being reporters) Be written to be of general interest to all readers, everywhere Relate to academic study or research Have a lot of advertisements and glossy photos
  • 16. Some Questions to Choose From Pt 2 Define "empirical article" (or “peer-review”) in one sentence. What is the most significant or meaningful thing you have learned during the session? (Feel free to discuss more than one thing, if you like.) What question(s) remain uppermost in your mind? Please list one thing that you still don't understand. If you would like a librarian to contact you for help, please include your email address (but remember that your comments will no longer be anonymous). If you could change something about this session, what would it be?

Notes de l'éditeur

  1. They tend to be highly constructive
  2. Focus on learning. Help you to understand what students don’t understand—can lead to some illuminating discoveries and modification of the things you present or the ways you present them. Also, we will have to be doing this in the future.
  3. Get in the habit
  4. Do they know what a database is? Make sure. Do they understand the difference between the book search and Academic Search? You might find that they do not.Limit to a small number of “real” questions.
  5. Put them in Zoomerang or on paper. Either is fine.
  6. Warn the students that it’s coming—but you don’t have to treat it like a test. Just say—”I’m trying to make sure that I’m explaining everything you need, so if you felt something was unclear, please do say so--please help out people who come after you!”
