The lower numbers were found in the Hispanic
population, students who qualified as economically
disadvantaged, students classified as special education.

4. Major Factors of Parental Involvement
“Three Major Factors of parental involvement in the education of
their children:
1. Parents’ beliefs about what is important, necessary
and permissible for them to do with and on behalf of
their children
2. The extent to which parents believe that they can
have a positive influence on their children’s
education
3.Parents’ perceptions that their children and school
want them to be involved.”
5. Impact
• “86% of the general public believes that support from parents
is the most important way to improve the schools
• Lack of parental involvement is the biggest problem facing
public schools
• Family participation in education was twice as predictive of
students’
academic success as family socioeconomic status.
• The more intensely parents are involved, the more beneficial
the achievement effects.”
6. Proposed Activities/Strategies
1. PTO Action Plan
2. Increased Advertising
3. Target more local businesses founded
by Hispanic community members.
4. Provide a collaboration room for
parents.
5. Supply all materials and handouts in
Spanish

Implementation
• Administrative Approval

• Research decision making processes
• Apply prior knowledge of outreach programs
• Develop Community Partnerships
• Identify Stakeholders
• Launch Partnership
• Evaluate the success of the program
8. Program Goals
• Hispanic student achievement on the STAAR test for 2013-
2014 will increase by 3%.
• The number of Hispanic students in the failing group will
fall to below 30%.
• Classroom participation of Hispanic parents in all grade
levels will grow to 50%.
9. “The success of Latino students is inextricably
tied to the nation’s future, and families are at the
center of ensuring their success.” For these
children to succeed, we need the help of their
families. We need their families to be comfortable
participating in groups at school and sharing their
input as decisions are made that affect their
children’s education.”
- Adrian A. Pedroza,
Member of President Obama’s Advisory Commission on
Educational Excellence for Hispanics
10. By strengthening the PTO program to include more Hispanic
parents and including strategies to develop more programs
parental involvement, we will show that we value the opinions of
our Hispanic community and support our school’s vision, which
states that every child deserves the best education possible.
This new partnership will show students that their parents are
invested in their education and will provide a more well-rounded
vision for the future of our school as it pertains to all populations.
