2. As a C.N.A., you have to take on a
variety of different care plans. Some
patients only need very little and some
need all activities of their daily life done
for them.
3. When an elderly person is in a personal
care home, they depend completely on
the C.N.A. in some shape or form to live
their life everyday. We always have to
be there to make sure they are happy
and healthy.
4. It is very easy for an elderly resident to
become neglected.
Always make sure you are treating the
resident with respect. They are still
humans even though they need our
help.
Elderly can get very depressed about
their life. Be a friend and give them
someone to talk to.
5. Sadly many elderly are abused and it is
very upsetting.
Be very careful when taking care of an
elderly resident, they are very fragile.
Verbal, physical, or sexual abuse does
occur in personal care homes.
6. A C.N.A. is qualified to work in nursing
homes, home health care, hospice
care, and some hospitals even hire
them.
7. To become a C.N.A., you have to take a
college course and pass a state boards
test.
The test includes a multiple choice test
and a hands-on test where you actually
do patient care on dummy's and you
are graded.
8. Some elderly people get combative and
very mean with age. The resident usually
does not understand that you are trying
to help them and sees you as an
attacker.
Try to calm the resident down and speak
nicely. Convince them you are not there
to harm them. You have to hope for the
best and sometimes you will get hit by a
resident.
9. Alzheimer’s is a disease that elderly
people get and it causes them to loose
their memory. These patients can be
very fun to take care of and be around.
Usually their minds are stuck back when
they were young and they can share
good memories with you.
10. Being a C.N.A. is not an easy job and
can stress you out almost all of the time.
You have to have patients to work this
job and be able to see things you really
do not want to see. I sometimes hate my
job because it is so stressful, but when I
see that I made someone happy that
really needed me changes me whole
perspective.
