point or opinion

• In your groups, you will use an article on the
emotional/psychological benefits of having a pet
• Your groups will write a letter to your parents
persuading them to get a dog
• You must pick out THREE of the most VALID
FACTS in the article to help support your point.

10. You Do: Debate
• TOPIC: FOR or AGAINST the Homeless
• Instructions:
 The class will be divided in half in which each side
will argue the opposing side of the debate
 Students must locate additional, valid, and reliable
resources to support their side’s stance on the
issue. INCLUDE OPINIONS / MANIAC MAGEE
 During the debate, you must state where you
received your information. The other side is free to
challenge the validity of their resource.
 Each side will have THREE minutes to support
their side in which the opposing side will have the
opportunity to refute or ignore the previous claims.
