2. The Agony of Mrs. Hutchinson

A warm June day in town today
But she woke up with a chill up her spine
She never thought about it much as she continued washing the plates
When she finally realized it, it was almost time
She hurried to Bill and waited to see who will win the lottery this year
Everyone felt the tension as they took each small paper
No one knew who will not be next nor did they want to go on
As old man Warner cleared, this is the best way of survival
Never thought that in the ritual this could be happening to her
“Out of all these people why me?” she exclaimed
This is not fair; this ritual is no longer humane!
As the stones hit every part of her she shouted, “Please spare me!”
Not even one boy took pity as everyone executed the lady
Poor old Tessie… this year’s winner of the lottery
