There are three forces shaping the future of banking. Technology innovation is the first. For most traditional financial institutions -- banks and credit unions -- technology innovation is a weakness; instead, they rely on third-party firms ranging from established core providers to startups to provide them with a mix of products that they repackage and resell to their customers. Demographics is the second force. Millennials now account for 25% of the US population with 80 million and growing. The third force is the emergence of new business models on the one hand driven by Millennial demand and communication preferences, and on the other, enabled by new technologies as they are invented. The report examines data from multiple sources and suggests potential defenses for institutions to fend off competitive threats from technology, retail, and telecom firms that are gaining traction in the payments and banking arenas.

Cash money and banks as we know it will be gone in the near future. Digital financial services by new FinTechs will rule our everyday routines. This could be one scenario. Another could be that banks outrun FinTechs in the long run because of their established customer base and big budget. Which of the two scenarios is more likely? Together, we will look into the realities and opportunities of innovative concepts from Banks and FinTechs. Learnings from the past 15+ years of eBanking and new financial services will be presented. You will see how successful service designs for new banking services were created – both from FinTechs and from Banks. With the help of a Value Proposition Canvas we will analyse some new digital financial services. In the end, we will discuss the recent develoment in the FinTech realm: the first FinTech got a banking license in Germany. Now, time seems to be near that FinTechs and Banks compete even more, or they cooperate. The hypothesis is: FinTechs or Banks or Bank plus FinTech – it does not matter. What matters is how well the service meets the user needs and provides a great customer experience. And service design is a great way to create such services.

Faced with the challenges of the financial crisis and re-regulation, retail bankers are distracted from the threat of the ‘de-banked consumer’. But, as we argue in our new report, banks’ core competitive advantages are being eroded – and they face some tough choices if they are to stay competitive in the digital age. Digital Technologies will Accelerate Branch Transformation, Not Make Them Extinct Retail banking is evolving at an accelerated pace. Globally, banks are facing disruptions from multiple directions. Business and economic realities have reduced the total number of US bank branches by 3,000 between 2009 and 2012 - a decrease of 3% over the 3-year period. In Spain alone, banks have closed 5,000 branches or 12% of their overall capacity since the financial crisis began in 2008, lowering the total branch count to approximately 40,000 in 2012. That is not all. Digital technologies have also brought a significant shift in consumer banking behavior. The percentage of US banking customers who prefer to bank online jumped to 62% in 2011, up from 36% the previous year. Today, four of the top five transactional banking activities in North America – bill pay, viewing balances/transactions, viewing statements and money transfer – are happening online. This brings us to the key question of this paper: do brick-and-mortar branches have a role to play in the future of retail banking?

Over the past decade FinTech innovations have contributed to a completely new way in which customers can bank, threatening the status quo of traditional retail banks, and redefining a banking model which has been in place for generations. These new technological advancements have facilitated a rapid emergence of digital banking firms and forcing established banks to swiftly increase their pace of digital adoption to stay relevant and stop mass client attrition to agile financial startups. These threats come at a difficult time for banks - stagnant growth of already mature market, decreasing profit margins due to the competitive pricing of new entrants, and customer loyalty becoming increasingly more tenuous. Banking is undergoing the fastest change it's ever seen. Might the banks, like the telcos before them, become dumb pipes as they're dis-intermediated from their customers by the arrival of new, leaner, digitally native companies? Often the retort of telcos to the dumb pipes remark is that they'll become smart pipes but what if the pipes are under attack too? The last few years has seen the arrival of a slew of VC backed startups competing for core business with the banks. Beyond this, might the core infrastructure of the banking sector be at risk with the arrival of technologies like cryptocurrencies and the blockchain?

Securitization of Trade Credit: Trade credit is an important source of financing for MSMEs, as they sell on credit to their large customers and then wait for long periods for payment. If these receivables (trade credit) could be packaged as a securitized asset, which would essentially be a commercial paper with the credit rating of the large firm, it could help MSMEs reduce their investment in working capital and their need for finance significantly. The credit worthiness of a typical MSME would also improve, qualifying it for greater bank funding. Though the securitization process which is similar to factoring, could be more cost-effective than bank funding, factoring, and letters of credit.

Digital technology is disrupting industry after industry. The price of computing, data storage, communication, and coordination continues to plummet. Artificial Intelligence, sharing networks, crowdsourcing, crowdfunding, and digitization of old analogue processes are revolutionizing huge swaths of the economy. It's these trends that are radically changing the needs and behaviors of banking customers AND it's these trends that are now forcing the banking industry to revolutionize. Banks must disrupt themselves or be disrupted.

The blockchain concept may be one of the most transformative ideas to impact the world since the Internet. Cryptocurrencies like bitcoin are merely one application of the blockchain concept. The blockchain is a public transaction ledger built in a decentralized network structure based on cryptographic principles so that any kind of trading, buying and selling of assets does not need to go through a centralized intermediary. Any kind of asset may be encoded into the blockchain and transacted, validated, or preserved in a much more efficient manner than at present including ideas, health data, financial assets, automobiles, and government documents. Venture Capitalists are calling the blockchain the next big investment wave.

The Four Futures we're going to create with our customers using big data. Choose carefully - only one results in a real relationships with powerful customer experiences and sustainable growth and profit. The others create more "Deletist Consumers" - deleting messages, un-following brands and closing their accounts with the offending companies.

Knowledge is being created and shared at unprecedented rates. People are now sharing original content, forming and joining virtual communities, organizing activities, tapping into the advice of others and sharing experiences at scale and without boundaries. This collective knowledge is enabling people to rapidly learn, act with greater confidence and influence others in entirely new ways. In fact, social is now the #1 use of the internet, with 94% using it to learn, 78% to share knowledge and 49% to engage experts. With 2 billion social connections and more than 3 billion expressions per day, it’s fueling the emergence of a knowledge economy and empowered individuals. As social and mobile technologies become increasingly pervasive, the opportunity to engage people in new ways is profoundly changing the way we do business. With individuals expecting to engage when and how they want, organizations are tasked with encouraging and supporting collaboration for employees, customers, partners and citizens while keeping an unrelenting focus on user experience. How can they do this, while safeguarding the integrity of both the business and the brand? In this session, we’ll discuss: • Building a community across various channels • How to sustain and grow your audience and advocates • Case studies of brands doing it right

Despite a sluggish economic recovery, Americans continue to shell out ever-growing amounts during high-spending times of the year. Take, for example, the record $4.7 billion consumers spent on movie tickets during the summer of 2013 and their total holiday purchases, which have been climbing steadily since 2010 after a two-year drop. During the run-up to these free-spending periods, companies put in many long hours devising sales strategies to maximize consumer engagement and ROI. Consumers plan ahead, too, relying on friends, family, social media and mobile devices to research products, land the best deals and discover the ultimate customer experience. During these times, loyalty programs take center stage – not just in the retail sector but also in financial services. And some exciting recent developments have helped financial services loyalty programs turn the image of the faceless, unresponsive bank into one that is driving genuine customer engagement year-round, including: • The evolving importance of Big Data and its accumulation and analysis beyond traditional loyalty metrics. Financial services, like other verticals, are learning to cater holistically to customers. What can a brand learn about program members outside of how they shop, what they buy and how they interact with their financial institution? How does their lifestyle impact their loyalty experience? • The growing need for FIs to get moving on mobile while attracting, engaging and retaining Millennials – a generation poised for significant spending power, but whose loyalty remains up for grabs. Banks need to be where their customers are and increasingly that means offering them an on-the-go experience that is seamless, intuitive and fun. • The fundamental rethinking of how a customer’s predicted long-term economic value – commonly known as customer lifetime value (CLV) – is determined. FIs must embrace CLV as the total amount customers could spend over time if properly engaged, with transactional barriers removed. These trends – and additional insights – are at the heart of the Kobie Quarterly Review: Financial Services edition. Its goal is simple: to educate readers about the evolving loyalty landscape in specific industries and where it’s heading. Our Quarterly Review also offers suggestions and analyses on how brands can improve their loyalty efforts, discussions on mobile technology and today’s two-way brand-consumer dialogue. We hope the Kobie Quarterly Review: Financial Services edition broadens your appreciation for what loyalty programs are all about - a way for brands and customers to truly develop genuine relationships – relationships that can grow as robust as the most revered financial institutions. Tell us what you think and keep the conversation going. Michael Hemsey, President Kobie Marketing

Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/why-teams-call-analytics-is-critical-to-your-entire-business Nothing is as frustrating and noticeable as being in an important call and being unable to see or hear the other person. Not surprising then, that issues with Teams calls are among the most common problems users call their helpdesk for. Having in depth insight into everything relevant going on at the user’s device, local network, ISP and Microsoft itself during the call is crucial for good Microsoft Teams Call quality support. To ensure a quick and adequate solution and to ensure your users get the most out of their Microsoft 365. But did you know that ‘bad calls’ are also an excellent indicator of other problems arising? Precisely because it is so noticeable!? Like the canary in the mine, bad calls can be early indicators of problems. Problems that might otherwise not have been noticed for a while but can have a big impact on productivity and satisfaction. Join this session by Christoph Adler to learn how true Microsoft Teams call quality analytics helped other organizations troubleshoot bad calls and identify and fix problems that impacted Teams calls or the use of Microsoft365 in general. See what it can do to keep your users happy and productive! In this session we will cover - Why CQD data alone is not enough to troubleshoot call problems - The importance of attributing call problems to the right call participant - What call quality analytics can do to help you quickly find, fix-, and prevent problems - Why having retrospective detailed insights matters - Real life examples of how others have used Microsoft Teams call quality monitoring to problem shoot problems with their ISP, network, device health and more.

Created by Mozilla Research in 2012 and now part of Linux Foundation Europe, the Servo project is an experimental rendering engine written in Rust. It combines memory safety and concurrency to create an independent, modular, and embeddable rendering engine that adheres to web standards. Stewardship of Servo moved from Mozilla Research to the Linux Foundation in 2020, where its mission remains unchanged. After some slow years, in 2023 there has been renewed activity on the project, with a roadmap now focused on improving the engine’s CSS 2 conformance, exploring Android support, and making Servo a practical embeddable rendering engine. In this presentation, Rakhi Sharma reviews the status of the project, our recent developments in 2023, our collaboration with Tauri to make Servo an easy-to-use embeddable rendering engine, and our plans for the future to make Servo an alternative web rendering engine for the embedded devices industry.
