The SPECIAL SERVICES GROUP (SSG) is an
independent commando regiment/corps of
the Pakistan Army. It is an elite special
operations force similar to the United States
Army Special Forces (Green Berets) and
the British Army's SAS.

31. DEFENCE INTELLIGENCE
• Since 1947, there are three main defence
intelligence services operationalized in the
military. The Military Intelligence, Naval
Intelligence and the Air Intelligence are
tasked with counterintelligence operations,
identifying and eliminating foreign agents
and other anti Pakistani elements within
Pakistan.

32. MILLITARY INTELLIGENCE(MI)
• The Directorate-General for the Military
Intelligence (also known as M.I.), is a Pakistan
Defence Forces intelligence agency and that is
responsible for the military counter-
intelligence. It is also refers specifically to the
intelligence components of the Pakistan
Armed Forces.

The agency was created by Major-General
Robert Cawthom, who also served its first
director.

34. ORGANIZATION
The MI directorate is composed of Air
Intelligence (AI) of Air Force, Naval Intelligence
(Navy), Army Intelligence (Pakistan Army), and
the Directorate for Marine Intelligence of the
Marines. However, the M.I. is part of the Army
and reports directly to the Chief of Army Staff.
And, the Army has been appointed its officers
to lead the agency.

• Established in 1948 by Major-General Robert
Cawthome, the Directorate for Inter-Services
Intelligence (more commonly known as Inter-
Services Intelligence or simply by its initials
ISI) is the most premier and largest
