7. Highlights – Summer School
An impressive 107 classes came to the library during the 14 days the library was
open -- an average of 7.6 classes per day. Most classes came to the library to use
computers and for library instruction (accessing databases, creating power point
and Prezi presentations, compiling Works Cited pages, etc.). However, not all
classes were here for library instruction/computer use.
• Stan Faust’s two classes came for historical fiction/narrative biography booktalks .
• One large group of Special Education classes came to hear Officer Troy Fields who
offered an informative and engaging safety presentation.
• Seventeen Health classes came to hear guest speakers Melody and Claudaniel
Fabien present two programs (4 sessions each day) about: (1) Healthy
Relationships and Choices, and (2) STDs.
• Three Health classes came to hear guest speakers Kiva Niceweb and Chris Ptak
from Sarah’s Inn about “Abusive Relationships and Date Rape.” They premiered a
video made by some OPRF students about a fictional abusive relationship that
generated lively discussions.
(The above statistic does not include the 4 brief library tours, the four classes that came to library for
the air-conditioning at the beginning of summer school, or the two Drivers Ed classes that came to
watch a film because welding activity above their classroom created noxious fumes.)
