4. * A thermostat is the component of a control system
which regulates the temperature of a system so that
the system's temperature is maintained near a desired
setpoint temperature.
* The thermostat does this by switching heating or
cooling devices on or off
* Or regulating the flow of a heat transfer fluid as
needed, to maintain the correct temperature
5.
6. *A thermostat that learns from user
behavior to create a custom heating and
cooling schedule.
*Nest addresses the programming problem
through a combination of sensors,
algorithms, machine learning, and cloud
computing.
7. *Nest learns behaviors and preferences and
adjusts the temperature up or down
accordingly.
*Nest also provides people with tips and
information to help them make energy-
saving choices.
9. * According to the U.S. Department of Energy and Lawrence
Berkeley National Lab
* the annual energy bill for a typical single-family home is
approximately $2,200, with heating and cooling (HVAC) accounting
for approximately half of the bill.
* The programmable thermostat, developed in the 1970s, promised to
help people conserve energy, but 89 percent of owners rarely or
never set a program (source: ACEEE, 2010).

11. *The Nest can learns from user behavior to
create a custom heating and cooling schedule !
12. Here we go..
*After Nest has been installed, it will default to a
temperature of 68 degrees for heating and 76 degrees
for cooling.
*Nest will hold these defaults until you change the
temperature.
13. *The first day, Nest will hold the temperature you choose
unless you change it, just like a regular manual
thermostat.
*At midnight, Nest will add the changes you made the first
day to your schedule.
So if you installed Nest at 5pm in the afternoon, turned the heat on to 70 and
then turned it down to 68 before bed at 9pm, the next day Nest will change
the temperature to 70 at 5pm and 68 at 9pm.
14. *Any new changes you make will be added to the next
day’s schedule.
*No matter what, when you change the temperature by
turning the ring, Nest will keep that temperature until
the next scheduled temperature change - or until you
change it again.
*After a few days, Nest will have learned
your basic personal schedule. WOW !
15. *You can monitor Nest and adjust the temperature from
the office, the car, your smartphone, your
couch, anywhere.
*You just need Wi-Fi and an Internet connection at home.
16. *Because, you can control your home’s
temperature from your laptop, smartphone or
tablet. Make adjustments in real-time, miles
from home.
17. *A Smart Thermostat that learns from user behavior to
create a custom heating and cooling schedule.
*Nest learns behaviors and preferences and adjusts the
temperature up or down accordingly.
*Nest also provides people with tips and information to
help them make energy-saving choices.
