Year 10: Whatnext?
Thinking about your future
Whatyouhave to do:
• For young people who have completed Year 10
  but have not reached 17 years of age there are a
  number of options:

• enrol in a secondary school;
• enrol in a training course at TAFE NSW;
• undertake an apprenticeship or traineeship;
• enrol in a training course with another approved training
  organisation
• undertake employment: or
• undertake some combination of education or training and
  employment.
Something to consider:
Leave school early = doubled chances of unemployed, lower
wages and have poorer quality of life outcomes;

Continue with education = enhanced life choices and better
economic and social outcomes.

1. HSC at our school
Attend_____and study a range of subjects
internally:

PDHPE             Ancient/Modern History    Food Tech

•Small classes
•Caring teachers and staff
•Christian environment
•Extra curricula sport, Music, Drama, Ministry options
2. HSC at TCC plus external subject
         Study usually 5 subjects internally and 1 by distance
         education

         Usually occurs when a subject area isn’t offered at TCC
         due to lack of numbers and the subject is in the
         students area of passion.


         This option needs to be discussed with MrsChate and
         Mr Greenwood to determine suitability.

         School Policy: parents pay half of enrolment fees for the
         external subject. Fees can vary depending on distance
         provider and type of course.
3. TAFE

• North coast TAFE have 2 local
  campuses- Great Lakes and Taree.

• A range of courses

• A range of levels: Certificate 1 through
  to Diploma

4. Traineeship or apprenticeships

   • variety of certificate levels

   • more than 500 occupations

   • traditional trades plus emerging careers

   • most sectors of business and industry

5. Get a full time job

Take up full time employment with an
employer of your choice.

      •Create a resume
      •Visit employment agencies
      •Get your resume out there!
6. Course with another provider
    Full time course with another private provider.

    Usually in metropolitan areas.

    Good place to start looking is Private Colleges
    Australia website- not exhaustive list but contains
    links to many.

    Each college will have different entry requirements
    and fees, plus you’ll needs to consider living
    expenses if you move away from home.

7. Combination work and study
   You may do a part time course at TAFE or another college and work
   part time =FULL TIME

   SBAT= School based apprenticeship and traineeships

   A School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship combines paid
   work, training and school; and as well as an industry recognised
   national qualification you will gain credit towards the HSC maybe
   even an ATAR

   find a training provider if you have a business willing to partner
   with you.
