1. John 1:6-18
• There was a man sent from God, whose
name was John. He came as a witness, to
bear witness about the Light, that all
might believe through him. He was not
the Light, but came to bear witness about
the light. The true Light, which enlightens
everyone, was coming into the world. He
was in the world, and the world was
made through Him, yet the world did not
know Him

2. John 1:6-18
• He came to His own, and His own people
did not receive Him. But all who did
receive Him, who believed in His name, he
gave the right to become the children of
God, who were born, not of blood nor of
the will of the flesh nor of the will of man,
but of God. And the word became flesh
and dwelt among us, and we have seen
His glory, glory as of the only Son from the
Father, full of grace and truth.

3. John 1:6-18
• John bore witness about Him, and cried
out, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who
comes after me ranks before me, because
He was before me.’” And from His fullness
we have all received, grace upon grace. For
the law was given through Moses; grace
and truth came through Jesus Christ. No
one has ever seen God; the only God, who
is at the Father’s side, He has made Him
known.

4. Grace Upon Grace
1. Found in most unlikely places.
• Deut 4:6-8 How wise and prudent are the
people … ! For what great nation has a god as
near to them as the Lord our God is near to us
… And what great nation has decrees and
regulations as righteous and fair as ……
• Missing the bull’s eye.
• Matthew 7:14 Narrow is the gate and
difficult is the way which leads to life, and
there are few who find it.

5. Grace Upon Grace
2. A manifestation of love (Jer 31/John 3)
• John 1:14 And the word became flesh
and dwelt among us, and we have seen
His glory, glory as of the only Son from
the Father, full of grace and truth.
• Missing it altogether.
• Hebrews 3:7-8 …when you hear His
voice, don’t harden your hearts as
Israel did when they rebelled, when
they tested Me in the wilderness.

6. Grace Upon Grace
3. Grace upon grace.
• John 1:16-17 And from His fullness we have
all received, grace upon grace. For the law
was given through Moses; grace and truth
came through Jesus Christ.
• No end to it.
• Peter 3:17-18 Be on guard so that you will
not be carried away by the errors of these
wicked people … Rather, you must grow in
the grace and knowledge of our Lord and
Saviour Jesus Christ.
