Question 1: In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
Here my masthead keeps to the conventions
of having the writing in font of the image so
that it is clear to audience since is a new
music magazine and can be recognised.
The main image keeps to the convention of a
magazine since it is a medium close up shot
and the eye line of the person is in the top
third. Also, I have similarly put the image
more on the right side of the page. I have
done this because when you read, you read
from left to right. This means the image is
the last thing you will see.
I have followed the conventions of a music
magazine by having a header and footer.
This gives a final indication of what else can
be seen inside the magazine. The allows me
to put further information that will grab the
readers attention.
I have followed the conventions of a music
magazine by having a header and footer.
The header has been used to promote a
competition. As the masthead is one of the
first things you will see it also means a lot of
attention will be given to the headers since it
is above it. The footer gives a final indication
of what else can be seen inside the
magazine. This allows me to put further
information that will grab the readers
attention.
Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
I have challenged the conventions of a
magazine by not using other images on the
front cover of the magazine. This was done
because I want the main focus and attention
to be on the main cover image of the artist
“Abbie Nicholls” rather than on other
people.
I have challenge the convention of this
magazine by using more than two fonts. On
my magazine I have used four different
fonts. This has been done in order to
highlight and draw attention to other parts
of the magazine such as the masthead, main
cover line, feature cover lines and the
header and footer.
I have challenge the convention of this
magazine by using more than three
colours.”Kerrang” have stuck to black, white
and yellow. However, I have expanded and
challenged the lack of colour use by using
black, white, purple, pale blue and coral. The
use of more colours allows my magazine to
have specific feature and aspects stand out
more such as the main headline “Abbie
Nicholls”. This accent of colours helps it to
draw attention.
Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
I have kept to the conventions of having a
barcode on the front of my magazine.
However, I have challenged the conventions
of the location of the page. Where
“billboard” puts it on the left side I have
decided to put it on the right side. The rule
of thirds means the left is the most
important and the first thing the reader
sees. Putting the barcode on the right side,
means that price code isn’t the first thing
you see, which could conflict the readers
choice to buy it.
I have followed the convention of
“billboard” by having a quote from the
article featuring on the front cover near the
main cover line. It has been cleverly used in
order to gain interest and curiosity as to who
“Abbie Nicholls” really is. Also, it allows the
reader to get a small insight as to what the
article is really about.
I have followed convention by putting a
contrasting colour behind the cover lines.
This allows that font to read and stand out
better. In addition, they have been put into a
column on the left side of the magazine in
order to make it stand out due to the fact
the left side is still showing when stacked.
Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
I have challenged the conventions by only
using one colour in my masthead. I have
done this because I have used other colours
in order to highlight specific features of the
cover lines. By sticking to plain white have
everything else in colours allows “Rogue” to
stand out.
I have challenged the conventions by using a
colour in the font for the main cover line. In
“Billboard” the colour of the main coverline
is white in and straight professional font. I
went against this and opted to do something
more fun and bold. The only accent of
purple on the front cover is the main
coverline. Doing this has allowed the name
to standout against everything else on the
front cover in order to encapsulate the
readers attention.
I have challenged the conventions of
“billboards” decision to have the masthead
behind the image of “Rihanna”. Having the
writing in font of the image so that it is clear
to audience since is a new music magazine
and can be recognised.
Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
Similarly, I have put the title “contents” in
the top right corner. This keeps to the
convention of music magazines and all have
the “title “ at the top of the page. Doing this
makes my contents look profession and
aesthetically pleasing
I have also put and editors note on the
contents page. The editor enables me to
introduce the new magazine and also an
insight as to what the magazine is about. The
audience will find this interesting as it makes
a connection between the audience and the
creator of “Rogue”
I followed the convention by adding a quote
from the article in the double page spread.
This allows the audience to get a sneak peek
as to what the article is about, but also
highlight who the person is in the contents
page photo.
I followed the convention by adding a date
line to the contents page. I have done this
because it is very common to see. Not
putting it means that my contents page
wouldn’t look aesthetically pleasing.
Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
I have kept to the convention of “Kerrang”
magazine by using a variety of images on the
contents page. Doing this means that I will in
capture a wider variety of people from the
audience who are into other bands and not
just the main cover feature “Abbie Nicholls”.
This then means my magazine has a wide
variety which is pleasing to the reader.
I have challenged the conventions the
magazine by changing the font and size of
the headlines. Doing this has allowed me to
bring organisation to the magazines contents
page.
I followed the convention by making the
page numbers stand out. Similarly, I have
chosen a bold colour that is part of my house
style. I chose the colour purple since it not
only stands our against the white and
black, but it is the same colour that is on the
front cover. This helps o bring continuity to
my magazine.
Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
I have challenged the conventions of “vibe”
magazine by not having one main image on
the entire contents page. I used more than
one image so that I can attract a bigger
audience by featuring more than one artists.
The images have been used to represent
their story as it attracts more attention than
just using titles.
I followed the convention by having a
different font for the main head lines. The
effect of this is the headings can stand out
and divide the contents page into orderly
sections easy for the reader to pick out
specific articles they want to read.
I have challenged the convention of “vibe”
contents page by not having a “Feature”
headline. I found that it was easier to split
the features on the front cover into
categories. It makes it much easier to
navigate the different articles.
Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
I have challenged the conventions of having my main image not
looking directly at the camera. However, this is similarly seen in this
magazine. Doing this helps to show the softer side of the artist and
their slight vulnerability, but also that they can be quite defiant.
I have challenged the conventions of a drop cap. Typically, the drop
cap should feature at the start of the article. However, I opposed
that idea and put at the start of my introductory paragraph about
“Abbie Nichols”. I decided to do that because I helped draw
attention to the paragraph and show it is important to know a little
bit about “Abbie Nicholls” first. The bold statements helps to
represent how she her self is also a bold statement.
I have followed the convention of having a different colour behind
the image and the colour behind the text. . The plain black
background helps “Abbie” to stand out. It also helps to connote her
dark rock side. The background being white helps separate the two
pages as the background on the other page is black. However, I have
slightly challenged the plain white background behind the text by
putting an orange “A”. The “A” represents the first letter of the
artists name. This helps to make the article look a little more
personal and clear who it is about.
I have followed the convention of having a picture credit. This is to
tell the reader who took the photo and the picture has been taken
of. Also, it a chance to give credit to the make up/ fashion artists.
Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
I have followed the conventions of putting a large headline at the top
of the first page of the artists name. It is important to make it as large
and as clear as possible because you want the reader who is flicking
through to have their attentions grabbed to read the article.
I have followed the conventions of having a house style. Evidence for
this is the feature colour of orange. In many magazines, they take a
colour from the image and use it else where on the page. On my
double page the colour scheme used on the double page spread
coincides with the colour of the lipstick that the artist featuring is
wearing. This makes the double page spread look coherent and
makes a connection between the image and the text about the image.
I have followed the conventions of having a introductory paragraph.
Having this enables me to give a quick insight into who “Abbie
Nicholls” before the actual article starts. This is very common to find
in magazines. It is important that the audience, if they don’t already
know, know who the cover artist is. It also allows you to get a brief
idea what the article is about.

Typically, the drop cap should feature at the start of the article. However, I opposed that idea and put at the start of my introductory paragraph about “Abbie Nichols”. I decided to do that because I helped draw attention to the paragraph and show it is important to know a little bit about “Abbie Nicholls” first. The bold statements helps to represent how she her self is also a bold statement. I have followed the convention of having a different colour behind the image and the colour behind the text. . The plain black background helps “Abbie” to stand out. It also helps to connote her dark rock side. The background being white helps separate the two pages as the background on the other page is black. However, I have slightly challenged the plain white background behind the text by putting an orange “A”. The “A” represents the first letter of the artists name. This helps to make the article look a little more personal and clear who it is about. I have followed the convention of having a picture credit. This is to tell the reader who took the photo and the picture has been taken of. Also, it a chance to give credit to the make up/ fashion artists.
  • 10. Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? I have followed the conventions of putting a large headline at the top of the first page of the artists name. It is important to make it as large and as clear as possible because you want the reader who is flicking through to have their attentions grabbed to read the article. I have followed the conventions of having a house style. Evidence for this is the feature colour of orange. In many magazines, they take a colour from the image and use it else where on the page. On my double page the colour scheme used on the double page spread coincides with the colour of the lipstick that the artist featuring is wearing. This makes the double page spread look coherent and makes a connection between the image and the text about the image. I have followed the conventions of having a introductory paragraph. Having this enables me to give a quick insight into who “Abbie Nicholls” before the actual article starts. This is very common to find in magazines. It is important that the audience, if they don’t already know, know who the cover artist is. It also allows you to get a brief idea what the article is about.
