• It was a passenger ship that was secretly
  carrying ammunitions
• A German submarine sunk the ship
• 1,198 passengers died ( 128 of them were
  Americans)
• President Wilson demanded Germans to
apologize and pay for all damages.
Unrestricted

• Sussex Pledge (Germany promised not to sink
merchant ships without warning them and
   rescuing all passengers)
• By 1917 Germany was defeating Russia
to do this they used submarine warfare
• They sunk all ships headed towards allied
   nations.
Zimmerman Note
• Zimmerman was a German
official he sent out a letter
  to Mexico asking them to
  attack on the United States.
