4. Sharing is not important!
Google + post
...knowledge is power -
schools … are … against
sharing outside the
organization and even
within.
5. Should teachers share?
Teaching can make some narcissistic. They think they
know everything, deluded by false power and feel they are
complete (and that they are the only ones who are!). [But],
in my opinion, once teachers DECIDE not to share then
their game is over. Philosophy, duty and quality vanish.
6. What does it mean to share?
What is sharing?
How do educators share?
Why share?
7. Teachers share with students
“Have you no wish for others to be saved? Then you're not
saved yourself, be sure of that!” ― Charles H. Spurgeon

Question: Do educators feel the same about
sharing with students as they do about sharing
with colleagues or others within a personal
learning network?

12. How do educators share?

coercion?
self-organizing?
13. Teachers are aware of technologies
Over 90% of teachers are aware of websites
like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, MySpace,
and blogs; over 80% are familiar with wikis,
LinkedIn, Flickr, and Slideshare.
(Seaman & Tinti-Kane, 2011)
14. Twitter promotes a PLN
Twitter helps educators promote a personal
learning network (PLN) by allowing educators
to engage in instantaneous conversations that
lead to a collective knowledge.
(Lalonde, 2012, para 9 & 14)

25. Government-funded communities
Australia has Scootle Community (#ScootleCommunity) – a social
network funded and set up by the Federal Government through
Education Services Australia. It allows teachers to freely share ideas,
experiences and resources in a safe and secure environment and one
that is free of commercial and political agendas.
We teach cybersafety to our students and so now we have a
cybersmart and professional network that will ultimately improve
teaching and learning.

26. Connected Educators
Connected Educators is an initiative of the Office of Educational Technology at the U.S. Department of Education and is
conducted by the American Institutes for Research in collaboration with several partner organizations and a technical working
group.
32. Why should we share?
Teachers who share are the best
teachers...I’m not saying you have to
share to be a great teacher, I’m saying
if you do, you are.
(Shareski, 2009, para 2)
33. (Why) Should teachers share?
Teaching can make some narcissistic. They think they
know everything, deluded by false power and feel they are
complete (and that they are the only ones who are!). In my
opinion, once teachers DECIDE not to share then their
game is over. Philosophy, duty and quality vanish.
34. Why share?
Teachers want to best for their students.
Teachers want what’s best for their
students...but do they want what’s best for their
colleagues and others in the profession with
whom they interact openly online?
35. Why share?
...to (a) share emotions with others, (b) sharing
online has advantages over face-to-face
interactions, (c) to combat teacher isolation,
(d) to explore new ideas, and (e) to experience
a sense of comradery.
(Jung Won & Brush, 2009)
37. Do you share?
What, how, and why do you share?

39. “I believe if there's any kind of God it wouldn't be in any of us, not you or me but just this little space in between. If there's any kind
of magic in this world it must be in the attempt of understanding someone sharing something. I know, it's almost impossible to
succeed but who cares really? The answer must be in the attempt.”

“Observing and commenting, it is a piece of cake.
Experiencing and sharing, that is a piece of work.”

40. “Practice sharing the fullness of your being, your best self, your enthusiasm, your vitality, your spirit, your trust, your openness,
above all, your presence. Share it with yourself, with your family, with the world.”
― Jon Kabat-Zinn, Wherever You Go, There You Are: Mindfulness Meditation in Everyday Life
“A disciple does not ask, "How much can I keep?" but, "How much more can I give?" Whenever we start to get comfortable with
our level of giving, it's time to raise it again.”
― Randy Alcorn, Money, Possessions and Eternity
“Life is about getting and sharing. The more you share, the more you get ....and the more you get, the more your sharing
responsibility multiplies.”
― Israelmore Ayivor
