1. In what ways does your media
product use, develop or
challenge forms and
conventions of real media
products?
2. In my media product I have tried to use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of real
media products. I have done this in a variety of different ways and I have chosen to show this by
comparing real media product screenshots with my film trailer.
In the Image at the top I have included a screen shot from my media product. This is at the
beginning of the trailer that I have created. This shot introduces the audience where my trailer is
mostly based on. Alongside my initial research I also looked at more recent trailers, this included
the midnight meat train. At the beginning of this trailer it introduces the city in which it set. I
wanted to use a similar idea to this but change it to fit in with my treatment. By using and changing
the conventions of this particular media product the audience can feel some similarity to real media
products whilst being intrigued by the subtle differences within my product.
3. At the top is the text I added in my media product. And below is an example of the
text shown in The Blair Witch Project's trailer that I used as a part of my research. I
have used this screenshot to highlight the use of developing and challenging
conventions of real media products. Firstly the text used in The Blair Witch was
specifically used to get across to the audience when the film is. However I have
used text to give the audience more of an idea of what the treatment of the film is
as this works as part of Barthes Enigma Code. Barthes argued that media texts such
as my trailer present a puzzle for the audience which has to be solved.
4. This is an example of how I have used forms and conventions of real media products and have
used this in my media product. At the top is a screenshot from my horror trailer Devils
Hallway. I have used almost an establishing shot when the viewer can see the house as this is
the first time the audience will see it and it is where almost the entirety of the film is set. And
below are the images from one of the trailers I used in my research. The screenshot that I’ve
used is from Insidious. The idea of the establishing shot came from this trailer. I like the idea
of using a shot of the main setting (house) in the trailer as the audience can anticipate the
future events in the film. This generates excitement and a natural curiosity that most people
have and thus encouraging people to go and see the film.
5. EH PRODUCTION.
In this example I wanted to show how I both used, and challenged forms and
conventions of real media products. I included an institution logo and based this upon
various other institution logos that I researched. The main reason for including an
institution logo in my trailer was because my researched trailers all included them.
To challenge typical conventions I decided to change the way in which I placed the
institution logo
