My great, great, great grandfather, Rudolph Brock,
and great, great , greatgrandmother, Emma
Smossman
Frederick Brock, one of the aged and highly respected citizens of
Jefferson township closed his earthly career Sunday afternoon at the home of
his daughter, Mrs. John Bentz, south of Laud, at the hour of 1:20.
The old gentleman had eaten his dinner, eating as heartily as usual, and
when he had finished, as was his custom, went into his room and laid down on his cot.
He gasped a few times and was gone, the end coming peacefully and quietly. One
more of the grand old pioneers of the county had been gathered to his fathers.
Frederick Brock was a native of Canton, Berne, Switzerland, where he was born
April 1st, 1822; died July 5th, 1908, aged 86 years, 3 months and 4 days. He was the
eldest of five children and the last of the family to depart from this life.
He was well educated in the old country, and in 1840 sailed for America with his
parents, who located in Fairfield county, Ohio. He celebrated his eighteenth birthday
while crossing the Atlantic, the trip over requiring fifty-eight days.
February 22, 1846, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Amman and to whom six
children were born, five of whom survive – Benjamin, of Marion, Ind.; John W., of
Mills City, Ore.; Mrs. John Bentz and Samuel of Jefferson township, and Mrs. Lewis
Long, of Washington township.

English: habitational
name from a place in
West Yorkshire,
probably named in Old
English as ‘enclosed
wood’,
from loc(a) ‘enclosure’
(see Lock)
+ wudu ‘wood’. It seems
likely that all present-
day bearers of the name
descend from a single
family which originated
in this place. There is
another place of the
same name in
Cleveland, first recorded
in 1273 as Locwyt, from
Old English loc(a) + Old
Norseviðr ‘wood’,
‘brake’, but it is not clear
whether it has given rise
to a surname.

Date Event(s)
1884 Alpius dies. Allice is 12 years old.
Allice, now 18 years of age, is working as a "servant"
~1898 or 1899 (1900 Census) in the household of ~27-year-old John
William Wilson. He runs a hotel.
A son, Foster, is born to Allice. He takes the name
1900 Foster Wilson, so his father was probably John W.
              Foster died a month later.
A daughter, Nellie, is born, also with the last name of
1902 Wilson, presumably John W.'s daughter. No record of
              marriage has been found.
              Allice marries William A. Stene (1854- ? ), a 56-year-
         1905
old man. (1910 Census shows the marriage).
Allice and William have a son, Willard (1906 - ~1957).
My family narrative is that Willard was a half brother
1906 to my mother, Dorothy Louise (Wilson) Brock. I
attended his funeral in ~1957) in Indiana. As far as I
know, he lived under the name of Wilson.
1908 Joseph R. Stene is born to Allice and William.
Census records show W. Stene, A. Lockwood,
1910 husband and wife, living with sons Willard and
Joseph. Also in the household is step-daughter Nellie.
Allice and William divorce or he dies. No record of
  1911-~1915
              either has been found.
Allice and John W. Wilson marry (no extant record
       ~1916
              found).
Allice and John W. have a daughter, Lucinda (Leona,
         1917
              1917-~1984) Philebaum.
Allice and John W. have a daughter, Mary C. (1919-
         1919
              ~1991) Lane.
AEL and John W. have Dorothy Louise (Wilson, 1921-
         1921
              2010) Brock. My mother.

Grandmother Laura Bradford, the only grandparent I have known personally,
lived her entire life in the Blackford County area. Cousin Dixie Coleman tells
stories of a gentle woman. Gov. William Bradford’s home is pictured above
Johann "Peter" Shrout, came to the U.S. from Germany,
September 30, 1754, on the ship "Neptune" from Germany.
He married Anna Feuersbach.
After 60 years of marriage, he murdered his wife. He held
a broomstick to her neck until she suffocated July 24, 1804.
He was arrested on July 28, 1804.
Shrout plead guilty and was convicted of murder in the first
degree. On Monday Sept. 10, 1804, the sentence of death
was pressed against him and execution was set by the Sheriff
of Hardy Co. on October 12, 1804, between 10 a.m. and 4
p.m.
Shrout was executed at Moorefield according to the
method of executing at the time, which provided the accused
should sit upon his coffin, carried by six men to the place of
execution, usually a tree with an appropriate limb and the
prisoner was allowed to signal when he felt that he was ready.
It is said that Shrout, instead of dropping the stick, threw it
defiantly into the air.

  • 10. Frederick Brock, one of the aged and highly respected citizens of Jefferson township closed his earthly career Sunday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Bentz, south of Laud, at the hour of 1:20. The old gentleman had eaten his dinner, eating as heartily as usual, and when he had finished, as was his custom, went into his room and laid down on his cot. He gasped a few times and was gone, the end coming peacefully and quietly. One more of the grand old pioneers of the county had been gathered to his fathers. Frederick Brock was a native of Canton, Berne, Switzerland, where he was born April 1st, 1822; died July 5th, 1908, aged 86 years, 3 months and 4 days. He was the eldest of five children and the last of the family to depart from this life. He was well educated in the old country, and in 1840 sailed for America with his parents, who located in Fairfield county, Ohio. He celebrated his eighteenth birthday while crossing the Atlantic, the trip over requiring fifty-eight days. February 22, 1846, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Amman and to whom six children were born, five of whom survive – Benjamin, of Marion, Ind.; John W., of Mills City, Ore.; Mrs. John Bentz and Samuel of Jefferson township, and Mrs. Lewis Long, of Washington township.

I personally Jorund King of Uppsala YNGVASSON (487 - 509) think this has more to do with Aun "The Aged" "Ani" Jorundsson King In Uppsala (509-544) (509 - 544) religion than it does with the Egil Vendikraka "Tunnadolg" Aunsson, King of Sweden (530 - 555) science or history we call Ottar Vendilkraka King of Sweden Egilsson (551 - 576) genealogy. • 21. English: habitational name from a place in West Yorkshire, probably named in Old English as ‘enclosed wood’, from loc(a) ‘enclosure’ (see Lock) + wudu ‘wood’. It seems likely that all present- day bearers of the name descend from a single family which originated in this place. There is another place of the same name in Cleveland, first recorded in 1273 as Locwyt, from Old English loc(a) + Old Norseviðr ‘wood’, ‘brake’, but it is not clear whether it has given rise to a surname.

  • 23. Date Event(s) 1884 Alpius dies. Allice is 12 years old. Allice, now 18 years of age, is working as a "servant" ~1898 or 1899 (1900 Census) in the household of ~27-year-old John William Wilson. He runs a hotel. A son, Foster, is born to Allice. He takes the name 1900 Foster Wilson, so his father was probably John W. Foster died a month later. A daughter, Nellie, is born, also with the last name of 1902 Wilson, presumably John W.'s daughter. No record of marriage has been found. Allice marries William A. Stene (1854- ? ), a 56-year- 1905 old man. (1910 Census shows the marriage). Allice and William have a son, Willard (1906 - ~1957). My family narrative is that Willard was a half brother 1906 to my mother, Dorothy Louise (Wilson) Brock. I attended his funeral in ~1957) in Indiana. As far as I know, he lived under the name of Wilson. 1908 Joseph R. Stene is born to Allice and William. Census records show W. Stene, A. Lockwood, 1910 husband and wife, living with sons Willard and Joseph. Also in the household is step-daughter Nellie. Allice and William divorce or he dies. No record of 1911-~1915 either has been found. Allice and John W. Wilson marry (no extant record ~1916 found). Allice and John W. have a daughter, Lucinda (Leona, 1917 1917-~1984) Philebaum. Allice and John W. have a daughter, Mary C. (1919- 1919 ~1991) Lane. AEL and John W. have Dorothy Louise (Wilson, 1921- 1921 2010) Brock. My mother.

  • 32. Johann "Peter" Shrout, came to the U.S. from Germany, September 30, 1754, on the ship "Neptune" from Germany. He married Anna Feuersbach. After 60 years of marriage, he murdered his wife. He held a broomstick to her neck until she suffocated July 24, 1804. He was arrested on July 28, 1804. Shrout plead guilty and was convicted of murder in the first degree. On Monday Sept. 10, 1804, the sentence of death was pressed against him and execution was set by the Sheriff of Hardy Co. on October 12, 1804, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Shrout was executed at Moorefield according to the method of executing at the time, which provided the accused should sit upon his coffin, carried by six men to the place of execution, usually a tree with an appropriate limb and the prisoner was allowed to signal when he felt that he was ready. It is said that Shrout, instead of dropping the stick, threw it defiantly into the air.
