2. Narrative Theory Steps
 Todorov’s narrative theory states that most story’s or plot lines follow the same pattern or
path.
 There are 5 steps in this pattern:
1. A state of equilibrium at the start.
2. A disruption of the equilibrium by some action.
3. A recognition that there has been a disruption.
4. An attempt to repair the disruption.
5. A reinstatement of the equilibrium.
 This type of narrative structure is commonly seen throughout many films. It is easily
recognisable and familiar.

3. Equilibrium
 State of well being and normality between the protoganists.
 The first part of the story will display a happy start, where the majority of the
characters are content and everything is as it should be.

4. Disequilibrium
 Well being is disrupted by an outside force and has to fought to return back to
the normal state of equilibrium.

5. New Equilibrium
 Equal balance between any powers, influences, etc.; equality of effect
