2. Magna Carta
✤ Was made for Great Britian.
✤ Created in 1215.
✤ The Magna Carta limited the monarchs power.
✤ It established rule of law by not letting the monarch be above the law
and forcing them to obey the Magna Carta.
3. Glorious Revolution
✤ ‘Twas the overthrow of King James II
of England by his son-in-law.
✤ King William III took over England
after this.
✤ The English Bill of Rights was a
result of the Glorious Revolution and
gave everybody rights rather than
just kings and queens.
4. The English Bill of Rights
✤ Was written in 1689.
✤ It listed the rights that people had such s freedom of speech and right
of petition. It gave people more freedom to speak their opinions
without getting in trouble.
5. The Enlightenment
✤ The enlightenment is also known as the age of reason. It was a time
when society started to use reason and common knowledge to reform
society and get people thinking.
✤ Took place from 1650 to 1800.
✤ The Enlightenment is important because it challenged to people to
think for themselves rather than just accepting what the church says
to be true.
7. John Locke
✤ He was from England.
✤ August 1632-October 1704
✤ Natural Rights are fundamental human rights. They are rights that
are for sure, and can’t be taken away by anyone.
8. Jean Jacques Rousseau
✤ Lifespan: June 1712- July1778
✤ From Switzerland.
✤ The social contract says that humans
have an agreement with their
government. The agreement is that both
the people and the government have
roles and responsibilities they must
attend to.
9. Thomas Jefferson
✤ From Virginia.
✤ Famous for writing the
Declaration of Independence.
✤ People don’t need property to
be happy, they just have to
pursue whatever it is that
makes them happy.
