2. Childhood
Born in New York in 1935,
raised in Brooklyn;
oldest of five children.
Family moved to
Connecticut, but when she
was 19, she decided to
move back to New York.
6. She worked as the
bar manager at Ev’s
11th Hour Sports Bar
in Hollis, Queens.
7. After work on March 13, 1964 at 3:15am she
drove home and parked 100 feet from her
apartment door.
Winston Moseley ran up to her and stabbed
her twice in the back.
She screamed out, “Oh my god, he stabbed
me! Help me!”
8. “Leave that girl alone!”
Moseley fled; Genovese began crawling
toward her apartment.
Moseley began driving around the
neighborhood, looking for Genovese.
9. 10 minutes later, he found her in the back
hallway of her building
where he stabbed her several more
times,
sexually assaulted her,
took $49 and fled again.

11. The attack lasted approximately 30-minutes
and was witnessed by more than a dozen
individuals.

14. Aftermath
Moseley confessed to two other murders
and sexual assaults as well as robberies.
Convicted; sentenced to death.
Participated in prison riots.
Death sentence commuted to 20 to life.
