Examining the potential anti cancer activities of recombinant disintegrins
Cancer is one of the most deadly diseases known in the United States. Dr. Julio Soto
talked to us in this seminar about how in his lab they were studying the potential
anti-cancer activities in disintegrins. One of they things they notice was how the
cancer cells induced hormones to create new blood vessels that were united to the
cancer cells, making this a greater complication. In his study he has noticed how
some cancer cells has less chromosomes and normal cells can promote the growth
of cancer cells. Their goal is to find a receptor that can emit a signal that will activate
cell division, cell migration or cell death. They used various disintegrins that was
best suitable for this study and it resulted that two of the disintegrins caused cell
death. In conclusion, further study is needed because they still need to know which
disintinegrins inhibit angiogenesis and metastasis.
