This document provides a scene-by-scene analysis of key moments in a film. It describes shots from a car crash scene showing a family arguing in a car before the crash. It then analyzes shots from a cave exploration scene where the main character Sarah discovers bloody fingerprints on the wall. The analysis concludes by describing shots of Sarah's desperate attempt to escape from the cave, with close-ups showing her bloody face as she climbs towards daylight using bones as stairs.
2. • This is a long shot of the back of the car on the drive home also making the
audience feel like that something is going to happen in this scene.
• It is also a wide shot showing the surrounds of the forest and its set in the
middle of trees to make us feel isolated with trees all through the film.
Car Crash Scene
3. • This is a mid shot of the family in the car and showing the daughter in
the middle of them.
• Just before this shot Sarah was talking to her daughter about her
birthday party which then doesn’t happen after all.
• Sarah then turns round to notice that her husband is quiet and distant.
4. • This is a mid shot of Sarah and her husband in the car but a long
shot of the car approaching.
• After Sarah asks him the question he then takes his eyes off the
road not noticing the car in the distance.
5. • This is still a mid shot of Sarah and her husband in the car but the car
is closer, from the last shot there faces haven’t moved and it looked
like he was going to tell her about his affair with Juno.
• This shot gives the audience a build up knowing what is going to
happen because Sarah and her husbands faces are fixing on each
others.
6. • This shot first starts out as a wide shot then going into a high angle,
look down view.
• You can also see the steam coming from the van and the polls that
went straight through the car seeing how much damage that the
crash has made.
• The van drivers face is not seen as it looks like the window on door
at the side is blacked out so the audience don’t see who it is as its
not relevant.
7. Blood on the Wall Scene
• This is a long shot showing Sarah looking around the cave and
also displaying the background inside the cave.
• In this shot the light is mainly set on Sarah and around where she
is standing whereas on the right side the cave is blacked out.
8. • This is an over the shoulder shot showing Sarah looking at the blood
that she notices on the wall.
• The light on her torch is purposely shining on the blood on the wall so
the audience can see what she is looking at.
9. • This is still an over the shoulder shot of Sarah but now placing her hand
on the wall to see that that blood is in the same shape as human fingers.
• The lighting is still set on her hand on the blood.
• This shows that what's going to happen further on in the film when they
see the monsters and blood and bones.
10. • This is also the same shot but now Sarah realises that it’s the shape of
fingers of a human and takes her hand straight off the wall.
• Throughout the film Sarah was the only one that noticed signs of danger
in the cave and the cave didn’t look or sound safe.
11. • From then it goes straight into a long shot of Sarah when she just
forgets about the finger prints on the wall and starts to look about
some more.
• After she walked away she didn’t tell the other girls about the finger
prints of blood on the wall so they dicided to go ahead.
12. Freedom Out The Cave Scene
• This is a close up shot of Sarah lying on the floor after falling
down a hole.
• While she is lying on the floor the shot does from dark to
lighter, with a light shining over her head to show daylight.
13. • This is still a close up shot of Sarah when she looks up to the light shining
down on her.
• The close up shows that her facial expression looks shocked as she looks
up to the light and this fight for freedom is over.
• The lighting is natural daylight and is shined directly on her face to show
all the blood on her face and her hair.
14. • This is a low angle angle mid shot of Sarah trying to run up to the hole.
• As soon as Sarah sees the daylight she starts to climb up the pile of
bones with all the strength she has got left.
• All the audience see is the natural light shining down on her and the back
of her body trying to climb up to the hole
15. • This a long shot of Sarah climbing up to the daylight, the way the
camera is placed makes a nice effect of Sarah trying to climb
what looks a staircase of bones.
• It also blacks out everything accept her and the bones that are
shown by the daylight.
16. • This is a mid shot of Sarah's hand that reaches up out the cave into
daylight showing her hand and it sticking the outside of the cave.
• This is a really dramatic moment in the film cause it convinces the
audience that tank god she is finally out until further on in the movie,
but in real life you wouldn’t be that dramatic, you would just want to
get out quickly.
• The lighting is mainly directed and shining down on her hand so that
is the only thing the audience notice.
