It’s quite routine! But look, still it’s excited because on this very day, talents and skills are shown through competitions of the two teams, Faction A which is the “Saturn” and Faction B which is the “Venus”. We had lots of fun. On this day too our excitement is triggered not only because of the activities but because students ramp their outfits.
Our school celebrated the Intramurals last October 6-7, 2009. The first part of the program is the “Literary Night”. In the singing contest, Nermie Apat got the 1st place in the Solo-English category and Cesan Menoza got the 1st place in the Solo-Filipino category. Faction B won in the folk dance competition while Faction A won in the modern dance competition. Cesan Menoza and Dan Menoza won the Balitaw while Mailyn Merto got the 1st place in the declamation and Aljon Sajol got 1st place for the oration.
The second day was the lighting of torch headed by Raymond Monghit. Mass dance and flag raising contest were done. This day was focused to sports. Faction B was the overall winner.
Really, this was memorable and everyone enjoyed so much!

Opinion
Where Is The Good School Citizenship?
By: Roderick Mejia
We believe that we will be glad to get some understanding of how the school came to be, it’s purposes and it’s relations to us and how it molds us to become better persons.
As high school students, we have duties and responsibilities to perform in school. We should socialize with others. The good manners and right conduct, the cultivation of our personality and other qualities of being a student. Where are those things? Have we learned something about values subject. We know that values cannot be taught but it can be caught.
But to help carry on the goals of our forefathers to preserve, mold and inculcate on the minds of our youth of what we inherited from them and made it the best for the next generation. As a youth who belongs to the same institution we should abide and be guided by the schools ‘ mission and vision and in that way, at the same time, we are promoting peace in the school. Naturally, if there is peace we can say that we had achieved a good school citizenship.
To my fellows, where is the good school citizenship? The consideration for our rights and the rights of others – the right to participate. Did we have it? How can we prevent favoritism in school? Does the selection of honors depend in beauty, money and gender?
ENHS celebrates Christmas
By: Marjelyn Amate
Last December 16, 2009, Estela National High School celebrate Christmas at Estela Covered Court. Yes, we can’t deny the truth that even in public schools there are still school fees that we need to pay. But we are lucky that there are scholarships enjoyed by most of the students of Estela National High School. Some said that it helped so much in their family budget. Their budget for transportation was shouldered by this scholarship.
The parents, SSG, Brgy. Officials, Teachers, PTA with our School Principal joined forces as the SGC (School Governing Council). This organization was assisted by the Plan International and they created TSAP (Targetted School Assisted Program).
The main goal of this scholarship program was to help children achieve quality education. As what we noticed, as of now, most of the children didn’t enjoy quality education. Likewise, another goal of the program is to help children realized that they have potentials to be developed.
The beneficiaries enjoyed either of the following: free transportation or school supplies depending upon the assessment of the barangay officials and the status of the family.
But how is the program? Does it continue until the end of classes? Does it make every beneficiary study well as a return of the help extended from the said scholarship? Did the goal of the program achieved? Sadly to say, it doesn’t. You know why? As observed, there are TSAP beneficiaries who came to school late and this resulted to the increasing number of drop-out. How can we say that the said program is successful? Obviously not.
You know what? I have gathered data that only 4 out of 10 pupils from Grade IV or ready to study in high school and only 3 out of 10 high school graduates are ready to study in college. In addition, there are 37% of children throughout Liloan who were not in school whose ages are 3-17. Where are they? Does Republic Act 9155 which is the Basic Education Law has been strictly implemented? How can we achieve the quality education? How can we prove that the youth are the hope of our nation?
Inspite of this scholarship, why there are still decreasing percentage of general rate of participation? During the S.Y. 2005-2006, there was 41%, for S.Y. 2006-2007 was 39% and for S.Y. 2007-2008 was only 38.47% rate of participation. Let us imagine, this scholarship started about 3-4 years ago, but
Why does it still happen? And how much this year?
How do they put their responsibilities as beneficiaries? Don’t they think that we were so lucky that Estela National High School was one of the recipients for this scholarship. How irresponsible they are.
Before, I thought that this scholarship makes an improvement not just in school but in other sectors as well. But what happened? Where can we blame this problem? How and what can we give to PLAN organization and in the SGC as well.
But inspite of all, PLAN and SGC were still trying their best to make this scholarship be enjoyed by most of the students for the next school year. They had planned also to determine who and where did the mistakes started. Does the mistake start from the selection of the beneficiaries or in the monitoring done? Let us solve this problem so that this will never be happened again. And I hope it won’t. Let us feel pity not just in ourselves but to the organization that invest money and effort to help students finish their studies.
I am hoping that all beneficiaries for the next school year should do their responsibilities.
Feature
Estela NHS has a growing population.
