1. ICELAND KIT LIST RECOMMENDATIONS
What to pack
You will need two different sets of clothing: casual comfortable stuff to wear in the
evenings, and outdoor kit for the daytime. It is important that you have the correct
clothing for the activities. You will be excluded from taking part in activities if you are
not appropriately dressed.
Individual students are responsible for their own luggage at all times. This includes:
carrying, the contents, size and weight of hold baggage and hand luggage.
There are no restrictions on electronic equipment however they are taken at own
risk. iPod’s etc, cannot be used during the activities but may be taken and stored
safely. We suggest that students may share hairdryers / straighteners to share load.
Set 1 – Out and about and activities
Swimming kit including a towel – this must be packed in hand baggage.
Walking Boots or good quality walking trainers. See Ms Debens if unsure
Good quality thick socks – 3-4 pairs is good
Layers of clothing, including thermal tops. Lots of thin layers are better than
not many thick layers.
Thermal long johns (recommended if you feel the cold)
Waterproof jacket and over trousers. Lightweight cheap ones are fine, but
you will need them!
Trousers – these should be jogging bottoms and not jeans.
Warm hat and gloves – essential
Sunglasses and sun cream (essential for the glacier if it’s sunny – we live in
hope!)
A small day sack – for carrying spare clothing, food, money, camera etc. (this
could form your hand luggage if it meets the dimensions below.
Camera
Phone/iPod etc (some of the bus journeys are long)
Set 2 – Travelling and accommodation
The hotels are warm and dry so casual clothing is fine together with trainers.
Around Reykjavik we will usually be walking between venues.
If you wear glasses or contact lenses, make sure you bring a spare pair.
Towel, toiletries, medication etc (prescription medicine can be given to Ms
Debens if needed).
Hand Luggage- No heavier than 5kg and must be no larger than 55x35x25cm
2. Swimming Kit, including a towel. This is for the Blue Lagoon. You won’t be
able to access your main luggage so need it in hand luggage. You don’t need
shampoo and deodorant as this is provided at the Blue Lagoon (it will get
taken off you at airport security if over 100ml) but do need a towel & kit.
Main Baggage – The limit is 20kg. (Extra weight is charged at £11 per kilo)
Money: Icelandic Krona
Spending money: everything is included but if you want to buy extra snacks or
souvenirs it may work out at around £10-£15 per day. Iceland is expensive for
souvenirs, but snacks and drinks are reasonable.
We would advise that pupils have a small amount of English Sterling to buy
breakfast or snacks at Gatwick airport prior to departure. The first meal provided is
on the first evening. Pupils will have approximately two hours of free time once
through security at the airport.
You will need Icelandic Krona before we leave the UK. You will need to order this in
advance from a money exchange since most do not stock Icelandic Krona. Food is
available near our hotel in Reykjavik for those that get hungry (Subway and a 7/11
store) but at Dyrholaey and Vatnsholt there are no shops.

Use of mobile phones during your stay will be at your own charge! You would be
advised to switch off international roaming / data roaming when in Iceland, and then
use WIFI when in the hotels to save charges. Speak to your mobile phone provider
about buying a data package in advance.
