3. I. Introduction to UpSkill
Example topics:
What is: UpSkill is an e-learning platform whose objective is to raise the level of ethical
compliance and labour standards. It aims to encapsulate the growth of ethical compliance by
providing a knowledge injection to the most vulnerable part of the retail supply chain - the factory
itself. UpSkill’s target audience are middle and newly promoted managers in consumer product
factories. Raising their level of knowledge and awareness will ensure that the trainees can pre-
emptively recognise and respond to hazards that can occur within the factory’s surroundings –
thus providing them with essential life-saving knowledge. Currently there are two courses:
Foundation Course:
Teaches the learner an overview of Ethical Compliance and Social Audit principles, targeting mid-
level managers across the factory and can further include cross functional representatives such as
merchandisers, maintenance managers and yarn store managers. When qualified, the candidate
will:
• Get a basic understanding of ethical compliance, based on international standards- the ETI
Base Code and the ILO conventions, as applicable to a factory setting.
• Be able to identify and improve ethical and safety issues within their authority or escalate as
necessary.
• Equip themselves with foundation level knowledge in ethical compliance, which allows them
to apply knowledge to their own department as well as further their understanding.
• Be capable of acting as an informed member of the pre-audit preparation process.
4. I. Introduction to UpSkill (II)
Practitioner Course:
This qualification is the higher level of UpSkill, and is designed for Compliance Managers or those
heading the compliance function within a factory. It requires the candidate to complete the
Foundation level as a pre-requisite. When qualified, the candidates will:
• Get an overall understanding of ethical compliance, based on local law and industry best
practice for a factory setting.
• Be able to identify and improve ethical and safety issues across the factory to reach market
expectations required to supply products to international brands and retailers.
• Understand that ethical compliance needs to be a process based on a management system
and not carried out on an ad-hoc basis.
• Equip themselves with practitioner level knowledge in ethical compliance, allowing them
understand and interpret related newer material to stay updated on new developments.
• Be capable of leading the pre-audit preparation process within a factory environment.
Method of delivery:
The UpSkill courses will be made available through:
- A web based learning accessible on compatible devices such as computers linked to the internet;
- Through low cost tablet computers that will be preloaded with an UpSkill app.
The learning flow assumes no prior knowledge and is comprised of two stages, Practice and Mock,
prior to the Exam. During this process, the learner can consult the UpSkill handbook in softcopy
which is available in the UpSkill resource centre.

will then allow the user to (again) have two attempts to pass the exam. A resit can be
purchased as many times as a user wishes so long as it’s within the timeframe of the course
not expiring.
2. Retake: Should a course expire, with the user not passing the exam, they will then be
required to purchase a “retake” option if they wish to continue. This will effectively, restart
the course and expiry time. The user will only be allowed to retake one time and will be
“barred” should the course expire again (without the user passing). If they still wish to
continue they will need to contact GreenGrade for consideration and further access.
3. Upgrade: If a user successfully passes a Foundation course they will be prompted with an
option to purchase Practitioner. This option however will only available if the course
(Practitioner) exists for the country of the user. Please note: The pilot will not have an
upgrade option as Practitioner will not be on offer
