1. Monday
Analyze Learners
This lesson plan is designed for second graders who are 7-8 years old. The class consists of 20
students (11 girls and 9 boys). This class has two students who have IEP’s (Individualized Education Plan)
both have a learning disability and spend part of their time in the resource room. There are 3 African
American students, 3 Asian students, and 12 Caucasian students. The activities completed and concepts
taught in this unit can be understood by all students (average students, and special needs students). All
students work well individually and in groups, so both of those methods will be utilized in this unit. The
two student with special needs work especially well with others who model their behavior and help
explain things to their classmates. Students vary on their levels of reading on their own, so group
activities will help every student have a fair chance to learn all of the material. This unit will help all
students become stronger in reading. All students will create a fairy tale of their own to show that they
understand the elements that are in fairy tales.

9.Diagram that each student must fill out
On Monday, I am teaching an introduction to the basic elements of a fairy tale (characters, setting,
theme). I will start by introducing the basic elements with simple definitions. I will write these
definitions on the SMART Board as we talk about each element, and then I will save the notes for future
reference. We will watch one of my YouTube videos I created for CI 350; it will serve as further
explanation of what each story element means. Jack and the Bean Stock will serve as an example of how
the elements are in a fairy tale and I will require that each student pays attention as I read so that I can
4. ask them questions as I am reading. The ELMO projector will ensure that all students can see the book
being read. After the book is read, we will go back through the book and pick out each fairy tale
element. I will have students volunteer to write on the big piece of paper what they found in the story.
Students will demonstrate their comprehension of the story by filling in a diagram as we make the big
one in class.
Evaluate/Analyze Learners
RLA.O.2.1.11 I will read stories to them and they will read stories on their own. We will discuss story
elements and students will learn to identify them in a story. Students will also learn how to identify the
main idea of a story.
