On average kids
are using social
media as early
as 8.
Some stats regarding the
youngest users of
technology
We consider Kids "Digital
Natives" but are they?
Digital Natives?
Children growing up with the technology
available today lead to the label “digital
natives”- coined by Mark Prensky
Kids may know how to use tech but are they
using it to create and innovate?
Though we are labeled the "immigrants" we need
to guide our children to use the tech responsibly
– Digital Citizenship
Kids need limits - The American
Academy of Pediatrics recently
issued guidelines for parents
model an effective "media diet"
create a media use plan for your
family
Limit entertainment screen time to
less than one or two hours per day; in
children under 2, discourage screen
media exposure.

Whether we're comfortable with it or not, digital
footprints—which Richardson defines as "online
portfolios of who we are, what we do, and by
association, what we know"—are an inevitable byproduct of life in a connected world. Instead of
teaching students to be afraid of what others can
learn about them online, let's teach them how
digital footprints can quickly connect them to the
individuals, ideas, and opportunities that they care
most about. ~William Ferriter

About Media
At home……parents can play a big role
in helping children become media
literate. It doesn't require a degree or
special classes, just a little time and
attention. Talk to your kids. Ask them
about what they see, what they
understand, and how they are affected.
Many helpful ideas for parents can be
found online.
