Attracting & Addressing
Audiences

Research
• To help me understand the topic of addressing
and attracting audiences, I did some research
into how current films address their
audiences. I looked at the facebook page and
official website of THE HOBBIT which helped
me understand how to use social media in
ways to promote audience attention.
Facebook – Zest
Because Facebook is one of the biggest social media platforms, it served as a medium to
further promote our film. To build awareness and raise our audiences interests we would put up
pictures and photos of our cover, post exclusive news of the film and interact with audiences by
asking them questions and replying to their comments and reviews. Through Facebook we are
able to maintain a informal and intimate relationship with our fans
Twitter-ZEST
Twitter is another social media site we made in order to attract and address our
audience. Through Twitter our audiences and fans can follow our production progress
and company. Here we can tweet our followers with information about our film and
answer any questions they might face. Through this we can learn to understand our
audience on a more personal level. We use this tool, also as a word of mouth through
re-tweeting.
Word of mouth
• Word of mouth (social recommendation) is
one of the most powerful triggers for
attracting audiences. If people “like” or
comment on our facebook page, a social
recommendation will be created. This is the
same on twitter through the use of
retweeting.
Website
The FDA stated that “ the internet helps distributers start building awareness of a new
film at an early stage”. Because of this, we decided to create a website page for our
film. On our website page we include things like the name of the director and a
biography and information about the director ( knowing about the director and other
films he/she has produced might make them feel more confident in what they are going
to see)We have a galley of pictures, a brief outline of the plot of the story and interactive
Games to help engage them interactively.
P&A
• We choose a photo image of our leading role
characters- Heston Blumenthal and Dani to be
place on a poster. We would then place the
poster in public places where we would expect
our target audience to be, such as a the
cinema and HMV.
Case Study
• I looked at THE HOBBIT to help me decide to
create these platforms for addressing
audiences.
I took a screen shot of the official website page for The Hobbit. The site offers their fans
information about the production of the film, galleys of photos and trailers. They also
a game, twitter and Facebook page. These are all the ways they try to promote and attract
attention to their film. The internet allows distributors to advertise their films and raise
awareness amongst their audiences.

• I also looked on the FDA website to watch videos on how distributors target and
address their audience
